I hate these comics. I think what happened was that these zoomers read a lot of Calvin and Hobbes, took the drawing for granted, and now think that a comic is all about sticking a moralistic speech on a talking head (that's easier than writing a real argument for your blog). The difference is that in a daily strip when this was done, Watterson turned it on its head by making Calvin obviously learn the wrong lesson from his spiel; in a Sunday strip, he'd put Calvin in the wagon and add a fun visual parallel to the dialogue.
Meanwhile fuckwits like tell you about their life story with videogames, get uppity about the topic, and virtually copy and paste the character in each panel.

he seemed to fall back on that structure more and more towards the end of the strip. To his credit he had the awareness to stop the strip, when he could have easily just carried that "sermon" formula for many more years. And when you have to come up with 365 jokes per year, it's hard not to rely on your bitterness for inspiration.
It's still much more entertaining than webcomics.
