I fully do not understand how people can think Monty Python and the Holy Grail is some sort of high brow comedy. it's seriously random slapstick nonsense besides that one scene talking about how dumb feudalism is.

That's mostly because of the Life of Brian, which was their most structured work ever. My catholic religion teacher made us watch it, and back then (as well as today), I saw it as a funny example for an individualist struggling in a world filled with herd animals.
Their other stuff oozes child-like playfulness, especially john cleese, and I always saw them as real, true clowns without makeup. they are not always funny, but always likable. my favorite scene to this day is them playing squares meeting death in the meaning of life. I just love them.
