Triumph of the Will - really tedious and uninteresting. it's supposedly groundbreaking propaganda but I don't see anything revolutionary in it other than it having a big budget. its ideas are just the raising of a new flag, nothing interesting, nor is riefenstahl's form. no complex montage like in an eisenstein. some extravagant visuals I guess?
Dog Day Afternoon - Lumet is honestly a hack. his direction is stylistically impersonal and formally egregious; stinks of prestige television. every. single. fucking. shot. is a close-up or a wide-angle. themes are skindeep and unexplored (whoa... tv/fame culture is so messed up bro). basically just an acting showcase for pacino.
Life of an American Fireman - Boring film that is (falsely) praised as being the first to use crosscutting. In reality it was originally released without the technique but later re-edited to have it.
Midnight Express - encapsulates the worst part of 70s cinema, that being the relentless violence and cruelty and misery that seems more like it's trying to shock than really say anything interesting.

Thor Ragnarok is easily the most flawed Mcu film.
> The film has zero emotional weight after Odin's death. The Guardians films get away with their humor because before Infinity War they had the most emotional impact of the entire Mcu. This had none of that balance. The entire time I was watching Ragnarok I was saying to myself "Gunn could have done this so much better".
> The humor is unbearably awkward and fake feeling, like a bad SNL skit. It went genuinely into Scary Movie/Movie 42 spoof vibe territory. The scenes with the Grandmaster especially.
> Hela is just as flat a villain as Malekith or Ronan but is given a pass because she is alot more badass then them.
