This movie was the last peak of Arnold. Gabriel Byrne was an excellent Satan. God was not seen at all which added to His mystery. The visual style is BEAUTIFUL!
only thing I didn't like was the cgi, mainly. Why was it trashed by the critics?
Better than Constantine
Post devil kino for this year's October Horrorthon
That's right, cocksucker! Go back to New Jersey!
A haunted house movie and it's just Phil's disembodied voice shouting at the occupants for 90 minutes.
What the fuck man lol
disagree
But why?
It's certainly not a bad movie, but as an Arnold vehicle I actually don't think it works very well. With a different actor I think it might be remembered differently but Arnie has a certain place in certain types of films and this just isn't one of them. It's another very enjoyable piece of late 90s/early 2000s Catholikino, with movies like The Sin Eater and Stigmata.
His "Arnold scream" is egregious in a few scenes but I really respected the decision to out him in this. And it's his last successful starring role for a reason
While its not Arnold's worst movie, it is a low peak (for him). He had done the likes of Terminator, Predator, Commando, True Lies, etc. all of which are better than End of Days. So comparing this to those makes this look bad.
Still has some good parts. I enjoy Arnold's choir boy line, and Arnold finding his faith by the end of the movie gives him a nice little arc.
Overall probably a 6/10 for me, but its one of Arnold's last decent movies
You first...
How could you not like
"We're not afraid to die!"
"Good, cuz I'm not afraid to kill you!"
Yeah it has some good lines. Like I said its not bad, and its not my least favorite of his films. I just think its not as good as his previous films, but then, he had an insane run of great movies. Im sure many actors would dream to have a movie half as good as this one, and I do watch this one on ocassion
I can't confidently put end of days below true lies and commando. Terminator and predator for sure but not those two
His peak was definitely no later than Last Action Hero. After the mid 90s his movies got worse and worse.
>I can't confidently put end of days below true lies and commando. Terminator and predator for sure but not those two
I can understand that. Particularly true lies. End of days does have a certain atmosphere all its own thanks to the religious elements that true lies and commando lack. It is more unique because of it
I just really enjoy Commando. One of the first movies of his I watched
Yes I can get behind commando being a first Arnold. Very enjoyable for a younger audience
>Very enjoyable for a younger audience
yeah its not as dark or scary as end of days. I remember my parents renting end of days when it was still new, and I wasn't allowed to watch it and was mad as I had been allowed to watch some of Arnold's other movies and didn't understand why theyd say no.
Upon watching it years later, them saying no made sense
And somehow, theyre still better than what hes doing now. Last stand was ok though
thoughts on Sabotage (2012)?
The 6th Day is pretty good.
What was Arnold's last film before the facelift?
He's clearly had one on T3. Wasn't sure if it was End of Days or that futuristic clone one.
I didn't like it but I don't remember much about it. Just remember Arnold killing his squad cause theyre dirty and then going after the people who killed his family.
I'd take it over a lot of new movies though
COLLATERAL DAMAGE
I watched this movie in the cinema when it came out.
All I remember is arnie blitzing a bunch of garbage together and drinking it.
Eraser was Arnold's last good movie.
coffee, pepto bismol, some leftover booze, old chinese food, and a slice of pizza he almost stepped on
that movie bored me to tears
What about Fallen
Yes this. This type of material doesn't let Arnold shine when is too bleak and depressing.
A liam neeson type of actor would have made it work.
I didn't watch the ending but i was completly hooked from what i saw.
Is a different type of arnold film with an Ensemble cast of sorts.
Am definitely gonna finish it.
Late 90s Mel Gibson would have pulled it off well I think.
Based and Leotardo pilled
Jingle All The Way was pure Arnie kino. Watched it 10x as a kid
That was his best film since his heyday
Basically, most people thought they were going to get Arnold kicking Satan's ass like some kind of Doom movie. What we got instead was depressed Arnold, a dead wife and kids, an a poor attempt at dramatic acting. He's my favorite actor, but he's out of his element this entire film.
best part of the movie
youtube.com
Yeah pretty much this. I want to like the movie, but its sad AF. And his buddy pretty much it appears winds up in hell.
And what sucks is we were gonna get an Arnold Doom movie. But thanks to an accident, it got shelved, then we got the one with the Rock.
If we had gotten it, it might've been a good video game movie, which is rare
would watch with that puerto rican whooore you have for a son and that faggot ass good for nothing cornholing cousing that disrespected my sister
What is Arnold's best movie post Terminator 2 but pre governor?
Options:
>Last Action Hero
>True Lies
>Junior
>Eraser
>Jingle All the Way
>Batman and Robin (he was top billed actor, over Clooney)
>End of days
>The 6th day
>Collateral Damage
>Terminator 3
I'd go with Eraser, but End of days is pretty high on the list
True Lie
definitely End of Days
This. It's not badass enough. He looks great, started to age out in Eraser. The concept of Arnie vs Satan in a Predator 2 urban setting is kino but the movie was too downbeat and lacked memorable setpieces and macho attitude. Too similar to Millennium and that shitty Denzel Satan movie. A miss. You'd think Arnie would have had the script juiced up, such was his power at the time.
Wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the pepto bismol.
YOURE A GODDAMN CHOIR BOY COMPARED TO ME
Eraser was my first Arnold's movie and it was metal as fuck.
>that plane scene
>those sci-fi guns
>Arnold surviving some absolutely insane shit
Granted, I was like 5 when I watched it first, but still, this movie's great.
His comeback was incredibly botched and absolute shit. Plenty of scripts to choose, plenty of good directors that would kill for the comeback entry, now it's too late. He dented his legacy. Expendables is the worst shit ever, proof positive the 80s is America's action pinnacle.
Where shit really htf though was Tarantino rewriting Basterds from a Stallone, Arnie, Eddie Murphy, Willis ensemble blood bath to Harvey Weinstein's wet dream and cast. For years, Tarantino hyped his Stallone/Arnie/Willis war epic, and Sandler was cast for Jew comic relief. What a travesty.
Eraser is the movie when kids knew he was losing mojo. Big disappointment. CGI alligators were horrible even then.
Perfect
>For years, Tarantino hyped his Stallone/Arnie/Willis war epic, and Sandler was cast for Jew comic relief. What a travesty.
Didn't know this. Can chalk it up with his Doom as something that should've happened but never did.
What other things did Arnie turn down?
Doom should have been his first role after California governor. 80s nostalgia + 90s nostalgia + gore, Predator 3 in hell.
True Lies, only bc it had Cameron, scope, a huge budget, and was giant hit. Aged terribly but still best of lot.
Agreed. Honestly, if his name were attached to the project and with the success of the new game, I imagine they could've done much better than the straight to video trash theyre doing
Arnold did talk to Milius at comic con though about the new conan script, so hopefully we get one last hurrah from him. But what could've been
The big legendary movies that didn't happen were:
- $100 million R-rated King Conan
- $200 million Crusades epic with Paul Verhoeven which was insanely buzzed for years
- Predator 3 with Danny Glover team up rumored and Alien crossover gossiped about
-Doom adaptation
- Sgt Rock adaptation with Shane Black,
- $150 million Captain Blood pirate movie shot on ocean (Waterworld killed it iirc)
- Stallone team-up which would have made $300 million US box office, and was Holy Grail of 80s rumors
- Terminator 3 with Cameron and Hamilton
Nah. He's just desperate for Terminator Dark Fate headlines. Amazon has the Conan rights, all of them, and is developing big budget series. Meanwhile he has bullshit Western Amazon series with SJW overtones
tvline.com
>- $100 million R-rated King Conan
Still might get it. I hope.
>- $200 million Crusades epic with Paul Verhoeven which was insanely buzzed for years
>- Predator 3 with Danny Glover team up rumored and Alien crossover gossiped about
>-Doom adaptation
The fugg. All of these would've been good
>- Sgt Rock adaptation with Shane Black,
Had to look it up. Couldve been ww2 kino
>- $150 million Captain Blood pirate movie shot on ocean (Waterworld killed it iirc)
Not sure how I feel about this one. Couldve been good, could've been worse than the other possibles if botched
>- Stallone team-up
>Terminator 3 with Cameron and Hamilton
We did get a team up movie (Escape Plan) though something along the lines of tango and cash would've been way better than escape plan
And we're getting a new terminator with Arnie and Hamilton (though Cameron is still only "producing" and it looks bad)
I really hope dark fate doesn't kill arnies struggling career, cause Conan needs to happen
>Amazon has the Conan rights, all of them, and is developing big budget series
I heard it got cancelled
Eh...
So...this is a movie about demonic possession...but there are alcoholic bodyguards...and guns...and rocket launcher...and subway train...and the Catholic Church and the cardinals...and Arnie tried to rape the girl...
Sorry I don't like genre mixing. Granted that it's one of Arnie's ok to good movie
>Escape Plan
These movie and the Expendables are literally shady as fuck money laundering schemes shot in 20 days. It's pretty sketchy that Stallone stooped this low. Like getting the 90s NBA Dream Team but only today and nobody is playing for real. There was talk Mel Gibson would direct a proper Expendables but never happening. Dark Fate is wamp after Genysis and T3, no interest and plot already leaked.
Oddly I do wonder if Disney-Fox when rebooting Predator will consider pairing Sly/Arnold. At least those fuck understand what people want in a blockbuster. Same with Alien.
I have no faith in King Conan. Robert Rodriguez was going to do it with him, he owns a Frazetta museum in Austin , he was always doing Predators with Arnold, then passed it off to Nimrod Atal who made it about Israelis being masterrace.
Tbh, only Tarantino and/or Michael Bay could properly save his action career now. Maybe Christopher McQuarrie. Kinda weird we may never get a true QT firearm action kino.
Milius is feeble and inactive, and you are prob right Amazon placed into turnaround but they likely aren't gonna wait for rights to expire either.
Decent non-pozzed website for action movie and legacy action star news. Think they lurk here.
