All I have seen in here has been praises, how it and the original film are the only good Godzilla films.

I don't you nigger

I like it but its pretty much downhill after the atomic breath scene

Its literally made for Japanese audience. The rest of the world can't truly appreciate it.

Yea Forums has moved up to knees.

But then you have the subsequent argument that Shin Godzilla was terrible and the usual shit-flinging that happens in any Godzilla related discussion on the internet

Personally I thought it was extremely uneven. The Godzilla sequences were amazing, the first 20 minutes are a good set up to the movie's theme and giving you an idea what Anno's going for, and the climax was fantastic.
Unfortunately, the rest of the movie is really, really hard to swallow. There are no real characters, no real conflicts, and any "character" on screen is just there to represent some aspect of Japanese government or society. So when a character is suddenly given a moment, it doesn't feel earned or even interesting. The idea of Japan essentially being a character itself works for about 20 minutes, then is dragged through the mud for the rest of the movie.
It has some amazing ideas and moments, but it's also insanely padded out and hits you on the head with the same concept for almost two hours.

Some people on this board just preemptively hate Godzilla, which is understandable its not for everybody. Others hate Evangelion. Some hate both. Personally, its one of my favorites of this decade but I can see why some would hate it. Shin's divisiveness is why it is great, I think. That is the sign of a notable film.

cause it was popular

like you've seen them all

I dont remember what happens after lol

>There are no real characters
do you have character? does any of your friends?
> no real conflicts
I'd call godzilla a conflict

it didnt had enough godzilla screentime, not like all the others with their 50 minutes of godzilla haha

Ah, yes. Thank you ken-sama. You’re appreciation for the superior Japanese culture gives us the answers we need. Gominasai, my friend!

>do you have character? does any of your friends?
The fuck does that even mean?

>I'd call godzilla a conflict
I'm talking interpersonal, like the female ambassador's whole political sideplot that went nowhere.

Hackdeaki Anno edgy bullshit, like memegelion, the worst piece of shit in the history

Real life burocrats dont have a character that you can guess in three days, they dont have character arcs or conflicts, they just do their job
Not everyone on screen needs personal growth, cause most people dont have that either, this is not a hero's journey movie

Anno is Snyder with steroids, I can't imagine such a dishonest director

>Real life burocrats dont have a character that you can guess in three days, they dont have character arcs or conflicts, they just do their job

Just because something is a certain way doesn't mean it works when it's padded out for almost 2 hours.

I loved it. Semi unrelated, why the fuck does white hair Rick get so many one liners and lines in KotM, he's fucking awful. Also Mom deserves to be put against a wall for warcrimes. Ice cubes son was all over the promotional material and yet he's just some literal who military dude

Yea Forums prefers the travesty KotM featuring the worst Mothra design of all time

me want tater

I really liked KOTM, but yeah I don't like Mothra's designs. It's like they tried to mix together the GMK and Showa designs, but it just didn't work. The body was way too small.

Anno spent time making this dogshit instead of working on 3.0+1.0

The last half of the movie is very boring, and the main character needed more to work with. Being frustrated at how horrible bureaucracy in Japan is can only go so far, and he never really gets to punch on em, his fucking arc fulfilling doesn't even let him have his "I told you so" moment, and is all achieved by still being a faggot Japanese cuckboi

Reminder that it requires a high toku power level to get all the references in Evangelion. Americans will never be able to truly understand it.

Yea Forums unironically defends 98

98 was a fun monster movie that kept you engaged, Shin just sucked.

Though both pale in comparison to the best Godzilla film, GMK

Tokusatsu is japanese capeshit

Back to your gay board

most of Yea Forums including myself love it.

For me, it's the stupid googley eyes that look like someone bought them at an arts and crafts store. It's not even a bad movie either, but Godzilla just looks so stupid that I have a hard time taking it seriously.

I really liked the first hour or so of the movie, where it dealt a lot in social and political satire, and seeing Godzilla evolve through different forms and engage in great looking action(for a toho kaiju movie) was entertaining. Then Godzilla takes a nap and the movie's breakneck pace suddenly slows to a crawl, the satire becomes simplified and less compelling, and the way they beat Godzilla is comically laughable, almost enough to retroactively ruin the rest of the movie. I'd probably rank it under GMK desu

>linking to /m/
To obvious. Most plebs don't even know /m/ exists.

King is the Monsters was just better.

Godzilla design = -100/10 !

It doesn't
1. Yea Forums doesn't hate it.
2. That user was talking about what Yea Forums says about it, not his own opinion.
3. Retard

>do you have character? does any of your friends?
Not him but yes, we all pretty much do in fact.

Not him but I have a friend in the Air Force that is stationed over in Asia. He frequently hops about Japan, the Phillipines, etc. He was in a Japanese theater when he saw the movie, and compared it to a natural disaster movie. It's been a few years, but I think he said people were crying in the theater and the overall mood was pretty somber. I myself haven't seen it yet, but I want to.
