Honorable mentions: Toni Erdmann, The Favourite, Night is Short Walk on Girl, Bertolucci's lovely swan song 'Io e Te', the Estonian fairytale film 'November' and Twin Peaks: The Return which you could consider a film.

Overall the best years were 2011 and 2017. Looking back on the decade it's cool how 'Drive' predicted the 80s nostalgia trend, also funny how Xavier Dolan who was praised as new queen of arthouse just kind of faded away.

Against all odds it was a great decade for films. Asian cinema knocked it out of the park. Regarding American films, with the deaths of theatres around the corner I'm afraid that we're not going to get that many US indie films in the coming decade. A24 will probably survive and go on as usual though.
