No. In terms of storytelling it should have happened in the second movie, not in the final act of a story. A character doesn't switch into evil mode in the blink of an eye, it's a slow process (that's why D&D failed on GoT).

she fails, gets killed. Kylo finishes the wounded human Rey off and resists Palpatine jumping to him.
JJ subverted expectations, Rey dies for a big dramatic moment of a love torn asunder, Kylo is left standing, the hero of the trilogy, the Skywalker that rises, now turned to the light side.
