I guess he's not a very flashy player - does a lot of things well but not spectacular - and he broke through relatively late so it seems unlikely he'll be in a position to win a Slam, which is usually what it takes to catch wider public attention

you've got to do something notable at Wimbledon to catch the eye in this country. it's defnitely partly to do with the fact he didn't grow up here, but if you think back to any relevant British player in Britain itself, they've made their mark at the only tournament the country really cares about.
