On a scale of 1 - Pan's Labyrinth, how was it?

Had a weird tone as if it was a movie for children, yet it has an R rating. Michael Shannon's character was generic evil man, and in case the audience didn't get it they make him out to be a racist at one point for no reason. Only good part was the monster and set design. The writing was absolutely amateur dogshit.

The plot of the movie is basically "everybody please put your lives and careers at risk so that this retarded girl can continue to fuck a fish man". It was really stupid.

The romance ironically felt rushed and one dimensional.

2 maybe? It's not very good. It's just one of those movies that clumsily peddled the right message and got rewarded for pushing propaganda. It's not good or entertaining. Don't know how you make a fish man boring but they managed to do it.
