I've heard the suggestion that they cgi'd her to make her more gaunt, because gaunt is more ebil looking. I know Daisy Ridley lost weight and looks more gaunt, but this does look a bit exaggerated.

I think there are two Reys. That she was connected to Palpatine somehow after all, that he created two, so the other is her evil twin. That way the final battle is Rey vs Evil Rey, which is dumb but better than the alternative of Rey vs Kylo being the show down AGAIN or the offensive absurdity of Rey defeating Palpatine. I doubt JJ liked Rian Johnson's "lol she came from nothing and no one" empty subversion, so he'll undo that.
