What else is there to do with the Matrix? The animatrix serves as a full prequel and the MxO as a full sequel. It's done unless they want to retcon things.

This is the only way forward maybe, with the events of the MxO triggering a total meltdown in society as people who are able to leave choose to. I'm not really sure how that would be represented on screen though, since a war over peoples' minds is boring because it would all be meditative in theory. The only way it could work is if large segments of the Matrix start demanding wars with either the Matrix's simulated Russians/Chinese, and when the Matrix is unable to satisfactorily provide it (machine conception of war would be different than humans') the simulated city government starts to get attacked as not being aggressive enough. At this point either the Matrix allows it's tools to kill each other, directly harming itself as it requires live humans to power itself, or it steps in and tries to compartmentalize the damage.

The latter would just turn the Matrix into an actual warzone though, between humans and machines. Even cops would realize that not all of them are human, and Agents would have to be brought out and used in an increasingly obvious manner. There's no endgame to this as over time the remaining stock would become more traumatized and unable to cope with the Matrix, causing it's demise even if it somehow survived. Putting all the people into a prison is just putting them into a sensory deprivation chamber, which inevitably leads to mental idleness and insanity which is suicide.

Maybe that would be the movie's plot, the machines finally realizing that they have to concede this cycle and force everyone out. Or the machine itself collectively deciding to suicide outright, samurai-style. I don't know how this could be turned into something that could be seen on a screen.

I have no clue what to expect and I can honestly say I dont give a fuck either because if its bad i can pretty safely say I truly did not give a shit before release. The original is still godlike and reloaded had some nice scenes. Revolutions always felt unfocused and cringe with too much weird asspull bloat like smith in the real world
