I sure didn't. Jackie did nothing wrong.

I never understood the bust-out. Why not just take a piece of the business instead of bankrupting it? Tony was always concerned with legitimate income sources, he gets to declare income and Davey keeps the store.
Thomas Mitchell
Sopranos season 2. Same episode Tony goes to Italy to sell stolen cars.
Luke Nelson
i part i believe so because he was a victim of predatory nature but he wasnt entirely sympathetic because he fucked over his families future and ultimately did it to himself. The Sopranos had a knack fod writing good nuanced dilemmas ehere neither side was in the wrong.

Davey did nothing wrong.
>Tony lets him into card name knowing he's an addict gambler and would end up milking his sportings good store business into bankruptcy
>has to take away his $0yboy sons car when he got it dirty when Davey told him to keep the car clean and be responsible
>wife's fat brother almost bangs Carmella which would have resulted in all of their deaths
Of course he ended up alive and moved to a farm or something to live the true dream.

i just know i wont pay it off. I'd have to pay about $1800 a month to hit principle. I still live my life normally because even if I dump $10,000 of my savings into paying off loans it wont do shit.

>Of course he ended up alive and moved to a farm or something to live the true dream.
At the graduation he told Tony he was going to work on a ranch in Vegas. When Tony and Meaddow are arguing about Jackie Aprile's death she mentions he's in rehab again for gambling down there.

I thought it was boxes of ziti that he lost? Bobby and Vito couldn't eat that much ziti.

Its easy. For me, it was spending credit cards on hotel/hooker/strip club binges for 3 years after my business failed and I went in a spiral. I also owed money to the bank for the loan for said business. Owed around 300k when all was said and done, but almost 100 of that was credit card debt, payday loans and all kinds of asinine bullshit.
I still love hookers though, just gotta stick to one a week. Gambling, hookers and drugs are big pathways to debt.

There are many examples of Tony seeing seven moves into the future and spotting money opportunities like a vulture (as Artie quite rightly points out to him after he attempts suicide), but I genuinely think he did try and put Davey off getting involved in the executive game.
Davey appeared in the hotel from absolutely nowhere begging Tony to let him get involved. Tony was also genuinely pissed off when he woke up in the middle of the game to find out Davey had loaned loads of 'boxes of ziti' - if Tony had seen all of this coming, you'd assume he'd be glad at Davey owing him as much money as possible.
Evan Cox

I started another business and succeeded this time. I also bought into a friend's business which did pretty well. I also bought 10 Bitcoin for $20 and sold when they were 11,000 and put it all straight into the debt. I also sold my car and truck for maybe 25k together and went strictly public transit.I also called in every personal loan I'd ever given out which maybe came to 10k. I was obsessive in paying it off. It took maybe 5 years to pay off.
I'm still not rich though since I can't stay away from prostitutes, but I unironically can't think of a better use of the money since I have no wife and kids

It depends on your price range. Check if P411 has open sign-ups and invites. Check eccie. See if your region allows TER. It will boil down to joining a community and contributing for the best results. Otherwise, get a second phone #, texting app and follow the following protocol:
0. Ignore ads with obvious photoshopped photos, glorious asians and women with obvious attitude problems.
1. If the $ seems too good to be true, don't bother.
2. Reverse search the girl's images, always.
3. Google the phone number but note all of them will be listed as scam numbers.
4. Use your second # to run text game on them. Say you do drugs. Ask if they do drugs as well and what you can bring for them to "party". Ask if you can pay double the fee to fuck them without a condom. Make it seems like you're really on the edge of coming over. Then, about 30 minutes before the time, say your wife came home and you can't come. You should have the info now to know whether she's a junkie and fucks raw etc.
5. Don't visit hookers homes if you're an amateur.
6. If you're going to a hotel, don't park at the hotel, don't discuss services ( you shouldn't need to, you asked all she did on your fake #) and bring only the cash you're planning on spending in an envelope. Ask her to do a private strip show for you before any sex is discussed. If you can't touch her a bit and she won't touch you then it's a no go. This helps if you do get pinched.
7. Even safer: Book a room at a medium level hotel and don't tell her which one until around 30 minutes prior. Once again, no services mentioned. Explicitly ask for a massage. Envelope on the table. All valuables secured in the trunk of your car or left at home.
8. Bring your own condoms.
9. Watch ads. Did it just appear? Is it a traveler? Who is she? Does she work with anyone? Is that hotel too expensive for her rates?
10. Watch the news. Have there been busts recently? Has any politician made it a priority?
CONT
Easton Perry
i think she said the boy went to live with his aunt
Adrian Cruz
My opinion of John Sacrimoni as a man just fucking plummeted.
Josiah Bennett
11. Watch your surroundings. Be early and spend time outside. Did a cop just drive into the parking lot an hour before your specified time? Has there been a sudden decrease or increase in activity on your floor? Who dropped her off?
12. How are you dressed? Is it notable? Can she recognize you? Dress plain. Be plain. Schedule dates before things like haircuts, shaving, leaving town on a trip etc. It makes it much harder to scam/find you even by just a little.
13. Avoid dates in your town if you can. Go two towns (maybe 1-1.5 hours away) if you're an amateur. They won't search 1.5 hours away to nail a fucking John.
OR
AVOID ALL OF THAT, and simply:
See women who are reviewed well, and form a "chain". If you see a well-reviewed very safe woman, tell her what you're into, and ask if she has any friends for a threesome who fit that bill. If you can, find out the chick's name and don't waste money on the threesome and contact her directly, or do the threesome and repeat the chain with the 2nd girl, so you build a network.
OR
If you want to be 90% safe, see women who have been selling cunt for > 5 years with several positive reviews, no history of recent/medium time-period arrests and do outcall to your 3-5 star hotel, giving them your room # when they're in the parking lot alongside directions for them to come straight up.
If you do get picked up, lawyer up immediately and don't say a fucking word. It's a really easy charge to beat. The problem is the publicity. Get your lawyer to come at them hard on that. Cheers!
Remember:
1. Never see women who offer quick visits.
2. Never see girls who say when you cum once you have to leave.
3. Never see girls with fake photos.
4. Never see girls with a pimp.
5. Never see girls who may be underage.
6. Never see girls who are also drug dealers.
7. Never see girls who have ripped off other Johns.
8. Never see girls who display erratic behavior.
9. Never try to fight a hooker if she rips you off.
Mason James

Nancy Marchand dying really changed the entire show as she was supposed to be the series antagonist and with her death there was not enough to make the family side the main focus. Seasons 3+ increasingly focuses on the mob side with a mob character acting as the seasons main antagonist (Jackie Jr., ralphie, johnny sack, phil) to fill in Livias shoes.

it was just a sporting goods store, it probably wasn't making much profit. they figured it would take too much time to get their money back so they just ran up credit and sold everything to other people at a discount to make quick money. they do take over businesses sometimes if they consider it worth it, like the bar adriana manages, and the hotel that they turn into half a whore house.

because he was merely a one season antagonist much like mikey and jr in s1 and richie was killed before the final episode(id argue big pussy was the main mob antagonist in s2). the 2nd season was building livias threat to tony via the fake airline tickets and testifying. David Chase the creator of Sopranos has said all this it isnt some headcanon of mine.
Adrian James
His life was already fucked before getting into debt with Tony. He already gambled away all his savings, took a 2nd mortgage on the house and just as easily could have sold his sons car and taken the money to Atlantic City. I don't think Tony ever viewed the guy as a real friend. Tony views Artie as a friend
Gavin Morris
Nothing you said addressed his inner workings. The scenes with Melfi in the context of this storyline are of him defending himself. Your throwaway line debunks your own argument.
Tony is a shitty person and no one likes him. That doesn't alleviate others of their own problems. Tony warned him repeatedly to stay away. That wasn't enough, yet he's responsible for the debt the other guy accrued.
But hey, keep watching mob shows so you can tell yourself fairy tales about how great a person you are because you wouldn't do those things.
Leo Gray
he mentions that davie and artie were his old high school friends so he puts them at roughly the same level and tony did screw artie over when artie tried to LARP as a mobster in the arminac episode. id argue thats its arties own wisdom (mostly charmaines desu) in not dealing with tony and keeping him at arms length that spares him being eaten alive like davey not that tony views him as a better friend.
Connor Johnson
I only save white men and any other patients I intentionally misdiagnose.
Juan Richardson
based and redpilled
Joshua Diaz
what i was saying was that tony very well knowingly took advantage of him and the scenes with melfi reinforce this. the entire show depicts tony struggling between his two natures, with his bad predatory side inevitably winning over with Tony having to create some weak cope excuse to alliviate himself of guilt. he even says that he couldnt resist the temptation to fuck davey over. taking advantage of someone knowing is very much a wrong thing to do and if its an old friend youve known since high school that makes it doubly worse why are you larping as some tough guy and making excuses for a shitty fictional mobster lmaoing at you
Luis Hernandez
Except Tony genuinely tried to help Artie for no other reason than liking him in the earlier seasons, even if he was completely retarded in how he handled it in the end.
He never tries to really help Dave, and we don't see them interacting much outside of their gambling related conversations. Whereas Tony has an actual friendly relationship with Artie, as much as it's possible for him anyway.
Kayden Price
salut
Benjamin Reyes
yeah thats a fair point tony did genuinely like artie more. i still believe though that artie only really wasnt devoured was because of his own refusal to deal with tony and i dont think their friendship would have spares tony from wrecking his life like he did daveys.
Justin Murphy
CHECKERS! The thinking man's game.
Christian Lopez
I only know this guy from Terminator and here.
Asher Morris
This is literally what the entire show is about. It's about Tony thinking he is a nice guy but he has sociopathic muscle memory and genuinely can't see how he is responsible for bad things happening, outside of a few rare instances (that crazy broad killing herself.)
The entire show is just the scorpion and the frog except the scorpion speaks to a scorpion therapist about how the frog was a fucking idiot for offering to give him a ride to begin with, and how the woods used to be better back in the day, and if you think about it, it's not even his fault he stung the frog, and ACTUALLY the frog is the bad guy for even putting him in that position.
He probably did like the Sports Store guy. He liked him as much as he is capable of liking anyone, but with him murder is always around the corner. He almost murdered Paulie, he murdered Chris, whenever he DOESN'T kill someone he acts like he is doing them a favor, regardless if it's sending a loyal veteran back to prison or blowing up his best friend's restaurant. This is him being the "good guy."

sopranos was supposed to end with season 3/4 and it was to be the culmination of her arc. The show continued after and to be honest onw of the worst bits is how the show keeps creating circumstances to allow melfi to keep on staying.

The therapy sessions went from being one of the cores of the show in season 1 to almost procedural in especially seasons 5 and 6.
You can only have so many scenes of "Tony explains away things he's gulty for, but never gets to deep into it which leaves Melfi and the audience both unsatisfied" so many times before Tony actually seems justified in admitting the therapy was useless.
I remember a scene in season 6, I think it's after he murderes Chrissy where he admits to Melfi what he did, but it turns out it was a dream the whole time, and when he really talks with Melfi he doesn't talk about it :/

The final season had AJ's suicide which was pretty family centric. I'd also imagine the lack of family plot was due to the soprano kids growing up.
Robert Phillips
the show was supposed to ultimately be about the Soprano family not the DiMeo crime family however with livias death irl the main focus of tony vs his mom was removed hence the downplaying of the family. meadows story effectively ends in season 3/4, carmelas in 5 once they get back together. AJs lasts the longest because ultimately tony dealing with hia inadequete, unmasculine son was one of the 3 major personal themes David Chase wanted to touch on along with the therapy and mommy issues. You cant really deny the focus on family lessened as the mob focus was increased.
Ryder Torres
also to add onto this its never been confirmed but its a popular theory that jrs dementia arc was originally meant for livia and was tranplanted to jr after nancy marchands death.
Isaiah Russell
based Eugenicist nazi doctor
Luis Gonzalez
If Melfi told tony about it, she'd basically be justifying the existence of the mob. All of her therapy sessions trying to help tony would be for nothing.

Jesus Christ, you're both wrong. It has nothing to do with the practicality of it, it has to do with her accepting that his lifestyle is acceptable and would be encouraging the very thing she is supposed to be against. The entire episode was about her flirting with violence and revenge in a way that was completely alien to her and she could see herself becoming him, even slightly.
She continues to carry that anger with her for the rest of the series, and this |crisis of faith" keeps escalating as she meets with her own therapist.
Gavin Parker
Check out Fire in the Sky
William Hughes
I guess that could be plausible although it was a perfect and fitting end for Junior anyway.
Robert Clark
Not making Junior have dementia would have been a terrible missed opportunity
He had one of the best character arcs of the whole serie tbqh
Luis Williams
Good points however I would also say the final season was more focused on the psychology of tony himself rather than the DiMeo crime family.
The season talked about how tony, subconsciously fed up with how his father and uncle pressured him into becoming a criminal lashes out on everyone around him climaxing with tony murdering Christopher.
In that regard I would say it was still family centric thematically, but not in the same way the earlier seasons were family centric as they got less screen time.
Daniel Kelly
agreed jrs arc was kino and it whatever they actually had in store for jr wouldnt have been as good than what we got
Lincoln Howard
I've mentioned this in other threads, and people always disagree with me on this, but my main complaint about Sopranos is it never really developed the characters it had. It kept stuffing in more and more each season and then writing them off, and we never REALLY got as much as we should have about someone like Sil, or even Paulie.
Sil really didn't get an arc at all until the end of the show, and Chris was the focus of the show and Tony for so long but around halfway through they pretty much drop this entirely. It's jarring to see how they just relegated him to the background as the dude who says retarded shit every so often, and he's inconsequential more or less until the last season where he is unceremoniously killed.
They should have given more of the crew attention like they gave Bobby, it just felt like a lot of missed opportunity to me. Same with AJ. I get the theme of "Tony is dealing with his shitty layabout son" but for one of the pillar themes it feels like even his character wasn't fully utilized until the end. It's like in Breaking Bad with Marie's whole shoplifting thing, taken in the grand scheme of things it seems really useless and is never truly resolved.

I always ask this question to people like you: but why? I have friends with a couple hundred gs in debt because they just had to private school for undergrad and took out fat loans to do so. Then they bitch and moan about the decision they made and want Bernie Sanders to fix it for them.

He's right you know
Bobby's arc was pretty cool and I indeed wish there would have been more focus on Paulie and Sil.
Sil had some pretty great screen time while Tony was in a coma, would have been really nice to have more of that, some scenes about his daily and personal life, etc.
Honestly the focus on Tony's non mob related issues were often the weakest parts of the show. Not always, but often. Carmella, Meadow and AJ had a fuckton of scenes that were completely inconsequential in the end, no matter how well written their overall arcs were.

>classic boomer tunes manually playing in your head, while you naturally adopt and mimick Tony's heavy breathing and Paulie's ooohhs and hand gestures
>high iq discussions focusing on subtle details and smaller character moments
>insightful analysis of the show's subtext and writing
>great, timeless memes like gabagool and shut the door that always make you giggle
>no shit flinging, just breaking balls here, anons behaving like fags are just joking
>remember when as a high form of discussion, for collectively shared memories are powerful and enduring and what our group choose to reminisce about reflect inner truths about ourselves as well as the infinite depth and excellence of the series
>daily 300 replies from both casual fans and hard-core connoisseurs having fun discussing it together despite the show ending 10 years ago, when flavor of the week shit like got has already, disappeared from the board

I would disagree about Chris, he had constant development throughout the entire series. Season 5 in particular has some of the best Chris scenes like in "Irregular around the margins"
Paulie had some development in S4 when he was playing both sides with NY and the shit with his mom in the final season, but overall not much.
Sil was pretty much loyal background consigliere for the entire series, but I didn't really have a problem with that personally. I did like that he got some more screentime at the end to showcase his true loyalty to tony.
Chase Jenkins
To be fair, if got didn't completely crumble on itself in its last seasons making the entire story absolutely worthless, it would still be discussed.
But what is there to discuss when the writing went from precise, complete and ambitious to completely destitute as soon as they started running out of source material from the fat fuck. If it had been canceled halfway through it would be hailed as one of the finest tv productions ever.

I see what you're saying but I watched the entire series a month or so ago and there really was some sort of pivot around season 4. Cause early on, he was pretty much the second main character, a LOT of the plot was about him being groomed. And I think once he gets back from rehab or something (I forget what the catalyst was) I just remember you see a lot less of him, and his retarded comments really start to increase. Like he became a caricature of himself. I know for SURE after Adriana dies he is pushed right to the background too. I remember this because once he rats her out they never take time to show the fallout from that, all we get is a single resentful comment from Chris a few episodes later about how Tony owes him.

Gonna give this thread a good old bump.

Well, yes and no. Extortionate protection charges and Shylock loans that lead to bust outs was definitely part of the broad umbrella of racketeering, but racketeering can be broadly summarized as the crime of engaging in organized criminal activity. So cargo theft and fencing, illegal gambling, stealing from union and pension funds, basically all of Tony's illegitimate activities could summarized as rackateering under it's original definition. However, rackateering also covers other crimes that aren't necessarily illegal money making endeavors, like obstruction of justice or obstruction of state or local criminal investigations, or witness tampering. While these acts of obstruction might be done in order to protect illegal money making operations, they aren't strictly illegal businesses in and of themselves, and all of the above are obviously separate from the act of busting out a legitimate business.

Every time she talks to Tony, she keeps criticizing his way of life, telling him that he should escape his lifestyle of violence and all that. If she were to ask a favor from Tony, it'd not only make her complicit and down the path of Carm, it'd also undermine all her efforts and values that she's been pushing on to him.

In season 5 he took a backseat to Tony B as Tony's favorite cousin, which he comments on frequently throughout the season. He still got plenty of screentime, more so than Meadow and AJ. He and Tony also talk about the fallout with Ade in this scene
youtube.com
In S6 he still had plenty of scenes and development. However I would say he had less scenes with Tony due to the resentment about Ade. He still had the whole cleaver subplot in S6.
Also Chris was always acting retarded since the beginning of the series.

Is that really true though? I mean look at this thread, it's full of new insights and interesting opinions and all most threads are just glorified reminiscing. Isn't there some value to be found in a fond memory if it brings a new perspective?

This show is too fucking real for me. I grew up in a family situation similar to Tony's and honestly the emotions and grief are too much for me. Pretty much any episode makes cry.

Honestly Mike's wife sucked shit for not being able to defeat Janice in seducing a sad lonely fat man. A fucking trash can should've been able to defeat Janice in any kind of seduction.

Why do you think AJ was so upset that Olivia wasn't bringing ziti to his party? These Jersey guidos have a special ziti brand they keep to themselves. It's amongst the Italians, real greaseball shit.

I think it probably would have involved being tried on RICO charges. They were kind of setting it up with Tony deciding to let Jr have the reigns to act as a "lightning rod" of sorts. Marchand's passing, may she rest in peace a-salut, meant they transplanted an arc onto another character but then gave him a more interesting arc. I think Jr. getting arrested and charged on real greaseball shit would have fit with the themes of the show as well: an old timer trying to do things the only way he knew how and being taken down by an ever changing world that's moved on from the rules of the game he learned when he was younger.
Anthony Richardson
Correct, but the opposite side of the coin is not merely that she was raped, but that she let a rapist go. It's highly likely that he had raped before, and would rape again. She kept her morals, and she lost her morals at the same time. That's why Soprano's is kino, no one in the show makes a completely clean choice.
