>Is any anime watchable after evangelion ? Of fucking course. Evangelion was never that fucking deep as many pretend. Both endings fucking beat you over the head with the message of the series when it was perfectly fucking understandable for 24 episodes. If you don't get it you're retarded.
Jaxon Carter
>Do you have suggestions of preferably short and kino adult anime ? Literally Kino's Journey
Ryan Evans
99% of anime is unwatchable trash regardless of whether or not you've seen Evangelion.
Most anime fans are really, really fucking stupid.
sword of the stranger is a solid one. very minimal to nothing weeb shit just 2 hours of fun action

where can i watch this one without downloading it

>Cowboy Bebop Very overrated. A great soundtrack, but very 1 dimensional and annoying characters. I normally like solid episodic shows, but this format really hurts this show. On rewatches I always lose it when they get to the ep where some fungus is growing in a fridge or some shit. >Death Note Real garbage.

Watch K-On!, it's the next best thing after Eva. But you won't get much from anime if you're not willing to go full autistic weeboo desu
Henry Hall
That was just in reference to the Christian imagery, which isn't what anyone's referencing when they call Eva deep. People call Eva deep because of the characters how the story treats them.
Xavier Sanchez

Turn A too. War in the Pocket’s very nice. 08 some like some don’t. Eventually Victory and F91. All you need.
Jacob Campbell
>pretty much a LOTR rip off
I don't agree with this at all but since we both like/liked Lodoss there's no call for fussin' and a-feudin'.
Evangelion itself is mediocre. Also, anime films are better than most anime TV shows. Millennium Actress feels like a genuine film, not another weeb fantasy about teenagers, robots and similar nonsense.
Grayson Walker

Nicholas Cox
Psycho Pass season 1
Joseph Rogers
I liked the first half well enough, the second half was just incredible poorly done with interesting idea like Kira's disciple The problem I have is the the problem I have with Sherlock and a lot of "smart" characters in anime where their ""smart"" plans are some convoluted bullshit that works out for them because they're """smart""". See: the bag of chips arc in Deathnote, Norman's prediction of Ray's actions in The Promised Neverland, the entirety of Sherlock, most of Danganronpa S E E S A W, and Ace Attorney which I still like To a lesser extent, all battle plans in LotGH but that's not the focus of the show so it's more forgivable
Kevin Nelson
Cowboy Bebop isnt overrated. But it's praised for the completely wrong reasons. Its probably the greatest anime ever to efficiently use literary devices in an effective way. Almost every episode is foreshadowing or a metaphor for the overall main plot. The episode with the shit in the fridge that you hate for example. This isnt me reaching because the dialogue in that episode heavily points at it being the case, but that was just a metaphor to never leave things unfinished or they'll bite you in the ass. (Which is a pretty significant message for the underlying story) I never liked this show because it was "le cool westernized anime that I'm nostalgic for". Its essentially The Great Gatsby of anime if The Great Gatsby wasnt pretentious and actually good.
>This isnt me reaching because the dialogue in that episode heavily points at it being the case, but that was just a metaphor to never leave things unfinished or they'll bite you in the ass. I got the message. And the message in a lot of the eps. But they still sucked and were a slog to get through. > if The Great Gatsby wasnt pretentious and actually good. Great Gatsby is a masterpiece of American literature with an unmatched used of prose, vernacular, and tragedy.
Parker Martin

Nolan Fisher
>>Full Metal Alchemist Certainly better than most shounen, simply because it was tought out from the start. It's a simple and well executed coming of age story. But nothing more, and does not deserve the overpraise that it has.
Lucas Turner
I had the exact same experience. I used to watch anime every single day until I one day tried Eva when I was around 18. I think that episode 26 and EoE is an experience so completely unique that you won't find it anywhere else. Might've scarred me for life with the 3rd impact sequence, but in a "good" way? After the "End" card on EoE I knew I'd never enjoy another anime again to this extent and just stopped watching anime alltogether. If it resonates with you, it'll be a spiritual experience into your own mind like no other. If it doesn't, you're missing out.
Christopher Roberts
yeah watch the 13 ep run then the 3rd movie, real good shot
Juan Flores
>K-on didn't start moe I never said it did, faggot. But it was so popular that it made MOE the defining genre. Star Wars wasn't the first sci-fi movie, but it defined the genre in film.
>does not deserve the overpraise that it has. It has great characters, a good balance of serious and fun stories. A solid story arc. A great soundtrack. It's a great anime.
Christian Gutierrez
it's pretty simple user keikaku means plan
Julian Watson
Don't believe the Yea Forums gatekeepers. They have autism. Just watch what seems to interest you and just drop it after 3 episodes if it becomes unwatchable.
Just because something is the best doesn't mean you can't enjoy other stuff. But the problem is that everything after Eva just kind of went flat. Anime went from produced to mass produced in a few years. MOE and Harem subgenres started dominating. Waifus became a thing (if Eva was made today 1/2 the cast would be giggling 12 year old girls). Digital animation and coloring makes most of it look soulless (see Simpsons as well).

It's not even true about the Christian imagery, they say the purpose about as outright as you can possibly hope for in the anime itself, it's to make the viewer think "Are we the bad guys? We're killing angels after all right? The rest of the Christian imagery is to support that thought.
Lucas Ortiz
I watched it and I get why it was a big deal at the time but why is the fan base so pretentious like this? You're so corny.
Also, I don't like nu-anime either or anime in general but that's not the point.

Who gives a fuck. They are stil teens, like 90% of anime characters. There is nothing original about this. >All K-ON And anime is not all K-ONs. I think there is actually more shounen-like urban fantasy garbage produced every year than K-ON-like shows.

But they were very different from your standard anime teen. >And anime is not all K-ONs. I never said it was, faggot. But if EVA were made today, it would incorporate elements of previous anime, namely the giggily girl shit of K-ON. Are you fucking retarded? You really think Rei and Asuka (who is a fucking mess because her mother killed herself) is similar to the K-ON or other MOE girls that just have tea parties and try on clothes? fucking moron

I think the episodic nature is kind of the point. It builds a rhythm that it pulls out from under you when Ed, Ein and Faye all leave at once. It's not Evangelion, but it's not supposed to be. It's great for its own reasons.
Agree entirely on the metaphor aspect. Even when they've wrapped things up at the end of each episode, there's a feeling of melancholy. It's repeatedly beat into you that each of the main characters is running away from something they need to face.
Liam Parker
>Is any anime watchable after evangelion ? Eva is over hyped garbage and this is coming from someone who got 2nd generation vhs tapes a year after it was released.
Carter Robinson
end of evevangelions point was fuck escapism, NEETs, and waifus
this is the exact problem with people nowadays, everybody is looking for deeper meaning, and usually when you look for things you fucking miss the entire point. occams razor.
Ethan Rodriguez
Now that you've diagnosed yourself as an incel via Eva you're ready for the next step.
An anime about family, about history, country, war, propoganda, making hard life choices and living with the results, about breaking the cycles of your history and creating a better future. An anime about the battle for freedom and self actualization.
>Haruhi Suzumiya (worth watching the anime because of the movie) True. I can't imagine what it would be like watching it today though. The hype and subculture around it was absurd. It's a bit like Lost or Twin Peaks. The "water cooler" discussion was a big part of the experince.
If anyone here has never seen it, let me say that watching it in the broadcast order is vital, and experiencing the endless eight actually makes the movie better. Watch at least the first second and last episodes of it. Overall, the show's very much of its time. The movie holds up very well and makes a watch worthwhile though. Once you go into theories as well, the meaning of the show changes completely (depending on which one you buy into) which makes it an even better experience in a way.
Evangelion deserves credit for being "first" but honestly watching it I realize some of the worst anime troupes really started here. This show is influential in all the wrong ways and changed the industry for the worse.
Ayden Ross
>Millennium Actress Didn't care for it!! Tokyo Godfathers was better, I plan on watching all of his stuff soon though.
Brody Fisher
An owner's(he's young) friend at a bar I've been frequently recently keeps recommending Gintama to me. I'm not into anime but I asked him about NGE since there's been so much talk about it recently just to kind of, connect, and he looked at me like *I* was weird.
So try that I guess. Said it's hilarious.
Henry Fisher
Sauce on webm?
Lincoln Howard
Gintama's humor relies on referencing other anime, making fun of anime tropes or just general humor you won't get if you're not Japanese or atleast speak it a little bit. I don't think there's any comedy anime that you'll find funny if you don't watch anime. Although Gintama would come closest.
What exactly is an OVA? I always thought it was just a movie in an anime series but I just found out K-on has an OVA that is exactly like an "extra" episode that isn't an OVA, and then it also has a movie, that is not an OVA. Also DBZ's movies are not referred to as OVA's.
I couldn't stand all the nonstop screaming, also I was very interested in it a few episodes in despite that.
Juan Martin
Yea, he told me that, which is why I find it funny that he seems to only stick to entry level anime and doesn't really watch it much in general. Which is also funny because of seeing this post after I made mine.
Henry Cruz
The irony is that Evangelion rails against a lot of the trends it inadvertently started. Take Rei for example. Post-Eva, anime has been littered with obvious rip-offs which just copy the whole "cute emotionless girl" thing while ignoring that the show demonstrated just how creepy that would be and heavily hinted at her being sexually exploited.
Then there's Asuka who's considered a codifying example of the tsundere. The show goes to lengths to show that behaving like this is not healthy and that Asuka is psychologically unwell.
Kaworu is another character that has an army of clones, the serene, mysterious, helpful bishonen highschool boy, while ignoring that this personality makes an extremely dangerous person.
It's not Anno's fault other people copied the surface level of his work while ignoring the substance.
Jose Peterson
>this personality makes an extremely dangerous person. Should be "MASKS an extremely dangerous person."
Being helpful obviously doesn't make you dangerous.
Liam Morales
Recommend me some more alike anime(movies only and not movies tied to anime series), I've very recently have tried to start watching "classics" and others that have a good reputation which started with watching NGE/EoE.
This is what I've watched so far: >Akira >Jin-Roh >Tokyo Godfathers >Millennium Actress >Grave of the Fireflies I'm blanking, I feel like I watched more than this but it's all I can remember right now.
What I plan to watch: >all Satoshi Kon >the popular Ghibli/Miyazaki stuff >Redline >MAYBE Wicked City >Ghost in the Shell(original) >Your Name
What else bros. Oh also, I have a preference for before 2000 but if it's really good it's ok if it's anything later.
Spice and wolf is the worst i have seen. Then again, I have not seen many bad ones.
Shisenkai Yori was very good, I binged it while high as fuck. Loved it. I hate shit art when high.
Monster is one of the best
Baccano is cool, but adult. Not like pulp fiction, but in a similar way.
Ethan Wilson
>heavily hinted at her being sexually exploited. I thought I noticed that too. Gendo was hittin that wasn't he.
Luis Price
Original video animation, it means its an anime original episode that wasnt in the manga
Gavin Diaz
Oh and to add on, I feel like this happens often. Like American History X. People's favorite part is the beginning. I went to a majority black school and even then people would joke about the mouth on the curb scene. I think people just found that shit cool despite the message.
Liam Wright
Almost certainly. Rei fanboys will gut you if you suggest it though. There's a heavy overlap between being a Rei fan and thinking that being sexually abused means you're a slut, so they think it's an attack on their waifu.
Logan Cruz
I'm in the same boat OP, I've watched a lot of anime - including "masterpieces" such as FMA, Death Note, Steins Gate, Mob Psycho, Monster etc. - but it's all so dull and childish compared to Evangelion.
William Gomez
Good post. I was surprised when I once talked to an authentic people who identified as anime fans.
They were so stupid, I tried discussing themes and philosophy with them, they looked at me like a fish and stuttered some moe shit.
But 1% anime, probably less, is good art, very kino.
Caleb Hall
Nothing's good after you see a good visualization of Revelation. Your precious cartoon plus Twin Peaks. What else, the final Narnia book would be good. Maybe you could make it a Jap cartoon or something so you'd like it.
Brayden Smith
The Holy Breath doesn't discriminate against the slant-eyed.
That makes sense but then why aren't non-canon anime episodes(namely DBZ) not considered OVA's?
She was actually my favorite but I'm not a waifushitter, especially for 2d women. She seemed to have feelings for him and in a way that she could not for anyone else or any other thing. I don't know if it was learned or innate though.

The EVA anime is mediocre and its symbolism is piss easy to understand since it all rotates around the same concept. Go read the manga if anyone wants to see other characters aside from the protagonist and Asuka have real value.
Great posts, I even debated with these people about politics and science but they started spouting anime quotes.
Clearly low class monkeys unlike us. Let's go back to discussing Cape and Spandex wearing superheroes, Star Wars and more Bradd Pittu memes shall we gentlemen?
Imagine being this much of a pleb, also gainax owns part of the rights of the manga along with Sadamoto who literally designed the characters not to mention the manga was published first.

>Let's go back to discussing Cape and Spandex wearing superheroes, Star Wars Dude that gets shit on all the time here why do you keep deflecting with that?

I have a chart of worthwile anime movies. I will just leave a couple of notes for the chart. You said that you don't care about anime series, so I'm warning that Patlabor is tied to an OVA, while Piano no Mori i and the two Lupin III movies are tied to series. But the Patlabor OVA is only 7 episodes long, so it's like 2,5 hour, but doesn't really matter in terms of plot, it just that you'll know the characters better. Also Patlabor is a really good movie. Kara no Kyokai is not one movie, but like an 8 movie series. Yobi the Five Tailed Fox is not actually an anime, because it's Korean. If you decide to watch the Cat Returns, then watch Whispers of the Heart first. You'll understand.
You can tell a shitty episode from the first 2 minutes tho, just skip. 75% of the show is pure unfiltered kino

>You said that you don't care about anime series It's not that I don't care, it's that I'm more aware of the major series, but also that there is an endless amount, and it's all very long so I just wanted to focus on the movies. I'm currently trying to juggle watching shows too(just got to season 2 of K-on). Welcome to the NHK probably next, I dropped it after a few episodes years ago.
But yea, thanks for all this. I saved the pic.

Golden boy dubbed. It killed me

Forgot to mention: Castle of Cagliostro is directed by Miyazaki. So while it is on your plat to watch list under the popular Miyazaki stuff, it also contradicts it because you don't want to watch anime series.

Oh ok. Also just for clarification when I was writing this comment yours wasn't there yet.

ye all good meng
How good is that anyway? Lupin the Third is something I've heard about since I was a kid but I don't know how much I'd care for it. I figure it's one of the must watches but doesn't seem too exciting to me.

Eva doesn't even make it to a top ten anime. Don't get me wrong, anime is by and large trash, but there are good things out there and Eva barely makes the cut.

Gendo was busy with the blonde computer programmer. I don't see anything sexual implied with rei unless you interpret any man having power over a woman as sexual.
Noah Carter
My memory is shit but I thought I remembered a part where it was implied at the end. She's a clone of Yui too.

They put it in because they knew those symbols carried spiritual meaning and weight and lo and behold they do
