Just saw Apocalypse Now in theaters for the first time the other day, and I loved it. What thoughts do you have for this movie or the re-releases Yea Forums?
Just saw Apocalypse Now in theaters for the first time the other day, and I loved it...
Amazon still hasn't shipped my copy and I'm supposed to get it tomorrow
I'm waiting for the 4K rip of Redux
>Final-Cut
I put off watching this for 15 years, waited 15 years because I wanted my first viewing to be in a proper theater, and it's finally here. But it's a meme cut.
What is the best available physical release of the original cut?
Good film, doc about its creation, also good. Re-releases are always a bother unless they are something exotic like soundtrack changes or something.
the movie is good.
So is heart of darkness, which is the doc about making the movie.
I'd say it's worth a watch if it's in a theater that supports Dolby Atmos
For the experience sure.
Still playing in theaters?
i saw the final cut in theaters. it looked great but the cut itself was pointless
Definitely. I'd say the Final Cut was the best experience I had with the movie, but the cut is not better than the theatrical version.
I saw it and didn't like it as much as most people do. It was the director's cut though which adds a pretty long segment, and according to many anons here completely ruins the pace of the movie. I still enjoyed it at least.
Not sure. You might have to do some digging.
Nah french sequence was Kino.
If your cut doesn't have plantation sequence it's trash and you're trash.
What 4k tvs do yall like? I'm looking at the LG OLEDs, but I'm concerned about burn in and stutter.
they released all 3 cuts in 4K UHD
well technically it releases tomorrow
got the cheapest shit i could find at best buy TLC or some shit.
Samsung is pretty good., got this old 2015 model tho so no HDR
That would be the redux version. The final cut, which is in theaters is 15 mins shorter than redux.
>cracks egg
>the yellow stays
what did coppola meant by this?
Can anyone tell me why he remained loyal to America? Seems like he agreed with Kurtz on most things.
Perhaps I wasn't clear. My mistake. Allow me to clarify. I wasn't looking for opinions from broke niggas.
Just read Heart of Darkness
It's why the plantation scene was essential
Charlie don't surf.
Kurtz and America where on the same side, it's why they wanted him dead.
I use mine as a monitor so it's whatever. If you want to buy something overtly expensive for a mancave or something just use google. I am sure its algorithms will serve you will.
True patrician is reading Heart of Darkness with Apocalypse Now's soundtrack, followed by a reading of The Wasteland and The Hollow Men in silence.
Jesus, that's exactly what i did. I played Voyage when Marlow saw the heads on spikes
Because Kurtz wanted to die. He was done with living, if he wanted to stop Willard he would have. He chose not to, he knew what Willard was there to do.
>not creating your own soundtrack for every film you view
Never gunna make it.
>if he wanted to stop Willard he would have
He was morbidly obese user, he couldn't stop anything
Did you have fun wasting money on that English major?
The natives did what he said. He got them to kill Chef on the boat, he could have snapped his fingers and had Willard gutted like a pig.
If he had fun it wouldn't have been a waste.
Redux is the best version
>It was the director's cut though which adds a pretty long segment, and according to many anons here completely ruins the pace of the movie
Those are plebs
It's a waste of time and money. You could have tripled your earning power by majoring in something real like computer science, over the exact same period of time and for the same amount of money.
But of course for trust fund babies like you college is just about "having fun".
in the theatrical cut, its because america fuck yea. in the final cut and redux, its because he was reminded of why we go to war in the first place at the plantation.
Kurtz was correct. Vietnam was winnable. All wars are winnable. But it requires sacrificing everything wroth going to war to protect and becoming more savage and vicious than the enemy.
Is there something wrong with just having fun? You seem bitter and not at all logical.
I know I just think it's hilarious how fat Marlon Brando was, they paid him a shitload of money and he wouldn't even lose weight for the role
They even offered to change the script to fit his appearance better but he didn't want to be seen in such a negative light so they just always had him in shadow. Half the time he didn't know his lines so they just let him read from random books. It was a shitshow.
Is life just about "having fun"? Shouldn't you have to worry about making enough money to start a family like your parents did? Or do you just feel that you owe humanity nothing?
I've come to terms with his weight in the film. I feel it adds to his role. The contrast from his handsome, clean cut image from earlier in the film. He has become grotesque, a fat, war pig. Like a king from medieval times, he feasts while the natives scrape by. His gluttony represents his sinful, depraved nature. His moral corruption has changed his physical appearance. And the parallel deaths of him and the cow are hilariously appropriate.
None of this is intentional obvious, but some of the best aspects of films are unintentional. Like the song and dance from A Clockwork Orange.
>Shouldn't you have to
>He's very light on his feet, he says he will never die
if you read the original script, kurtz's lines were utterly worthless. He was just a slightly more extreme version of duvall's character. So its kinda obvious why brando acted the way he did. As not only is it bullshit to play second fiddle to another actor, playing basically the same character, the movie doesn't really work if kurtz is just the same thing as the start of the movie. he has to be something completely different, almost incomprehensible, but also completely correct.
>they kept the cow killing scene
oh shit.
I wouldn't expect a trust fund baby to understand.
"Light on his feet" is something you only call fat people. They used to say it about Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
Yup. And they killed an actual cow.
One of the best films of all time
That's how you know films like this won't be be made like that again
Understand a desire to have others live the life you have? Megalomaniacal at best.
It's not the life "I have". It's the life that people who care about humanity have. If you wanna just leech off of people like a child go ahead. I'd rather start a family and in order to do that you need a job that provides a serious income. And English isn't the way to do that. I like books too, I read Pynchon for fun. But majoring in English or anything art related is a huge waste of time and money. You could be making 80k right now if you had picked computer programming. You could be buying a house, getting married, planning a life. All that shit is objectively better than talking about poetry for 4 years.
one of my favorite scenes is right at the beginning when they're giving Willard the intel on Kurtz. They're having tasty breakfast on a sunny day, totally safe but when his voice comes on, it's like he's there in the room
>objectively better
Perhaps you are just a poor salesman.
"Exterminate... with extreme prejudice"
the final cut still has the plantation scene, but it's 4 minutes shorter
Unwatchable.
>4k bluray still isn't listed on amazon canada
suuuuuuucks
Redux>Final>Theatrical
all 10/10's though
Total nonsense. Someone who majors in English objectively makes less on average than someone who majors in computer science. If you can't even acknowledge that you're fucking retarded.
It wasn't about making more, it was about it being a waste or not. You see not making money as a waste in that regard I do not. Your attempt to convince me otherwise has so far done nothing to convince me of objectivity regarding this matter.
It's about way more than making money. You only have so much life. By wasting a huge chunk of your youth on a useless degree, you've shut yourself off from a lot of life. You won't ever make enough money to support a family. You've probably given up on that whole portion of your life. You've justified it in your mind in some way, by ignoring the fact that you wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for your father being an actual man, making decent money, and starting a family.... Which you couldn't do because you weren't enough of a functional adult. Instead you wanted to read poetry for four years. Somehow, that was worth more to you than making money, buying a house, getting married, and having children. Or maybe you were just too pathetic to think you could ever do that stuff
I was right about you being an English major, how much other stuff do you think I'm right about?
All of this is undermined pretty badly by the fact you're a spic.
>wasting
You have yet to prove it is a waste.
>You won't ever make enough money to support a family.
Unsupported assumption.
>assumptions about my upbringing
Is there a point to assuming my father was a paragon of something?
I wasn't the original person you responded to, nor am I an English major. You are a poor salesman.
You need English for Law related vocations. I'm not so sure.
Art is certainly worthless.
Nope, I'm a HAPA.
Now you're just lying. Even if you weren't an English major, you're obviously some kind of pathetic arts major. English and all arts degrees are objectively a waste of time when you consider you can earn profitable degrees for the same cost of tuition and the same amount of time. People who make less money, like English majors, are objectively gonna struggle more financially and have a worse chance of starting a family. Duh.
No you don't. You can go into law with literally any degree and law is another retarded profession. Most law school grads aren't lawyers, they're working jobs that don't even require law degrees. Look at the amount of law jobs created each year versus the amount of law school grads. It's a retarded idea. And even if you do spend 200k going to a good school and do well and get a well paying job in a major city, your work life balance is fucked. Sure you make over 100k a year but you work over 80 hours a week so good fucking luck starting a family. Oh and your rent in that city is over half your salary and the rest goes to paying off student loans.
Anyone who does anything besides CS or engineering is a fucking retarded who doesn't deserve college.
No I am not an arts major. You are being foolish.
>I'm a HAPA.
Still a subhuman, and it’s only ever subhumans who go on and on about “being a man.” As if being a piece of filthy human garbage that exists only to produce more pieces of filthy human garbage is some sort of high ideal.
You're just lying at this point. We both know you waste your time and money on whatever dumb thing you majored in.
Apocalypse now is rewatchable over and over. That's what makes it good, apart from it's already genius.
I can pass for white and I'm well over 6 foot. I'm actually less than half Asian so I'm not even a HAPA. And my kids will look white, unlike you who won't ever have kids because you majored in English and no white woman wants to be impregnated by some pathetic, sub 20k a year piece of shit like you.
You are wrong because you do not understand why a person would take the time to argue with you about something that does not effect him. You cannot waste time you enjoyed. Because all you have is time.
You absolutely can waste time you enjoyed. That is why heroin addicts are a waste of life. Why whores are a waste of life. You don't exist in a vaccum. You are the result of millions of years of successful evolution, breading, and society. You owe humanity for your life. If you can't repay that by raising children of your own to do the same thing, you are a waste of life and did not deserve to be born. End of story.
Not a fan of the infertile and celibate then.
Are you trying to tell me that you hate yourself? I already knew that buddy.
First time in this conversation I am unsure what you mean. I was being forward.
Regret seeing this in a theatre the other day but not in imax.
Was 4k though so looked great.
fuck crappola. at least he could've added the monkey sampan scene. but nah... just cut that one scene bruh! also the colors are all wrong. in redux you could've count hairs on willard's neck.
