While Mainland Chinese films are generally garbage and almost like a second bollywood, Hong Kong (and Taiwan as well) has had a great film scene inspired by French New Wave and similar American films since the 80's. Wong Kar-Wai is a prime example of Hong Kong's achievement in cinema. After seeing Chungking Express, Quentin Tarantino fell in love with this movie and actually ended up doing a screening of it himself. While the most popular Hong Kong films are the dramatic action kung fu movies, there is a section of Hong Kong cinema with obvious Art House themes.
If anyone has any recommendations on Hong Kong, Taiwanese, or Chinese films, I'm all ears.
I didn't even make it past the opening credits. I think someone spoke in English and it was so jarring I turned it off.

Quentin Tarantino claims that the relationship in Fallen Angel was supposed to be the third relationship in Chungking Express. I'm going to watch this next. Happy Together is a poopdick movie but I'll have to watch that too.

What's the best film to watch after In the Mood for Love?
Isaiah Rodriguez
Fallen Angels i think
William Wilson
Yes it was supposed to be one film. Hong Kong during day and night but it would be too long and some financial reasons prevented it to be one film. 2046 naturally.
Ryan Hall
2046 is another Kar-Wai film that I've heard is good. It came out in 2005.

You can sync your subs if you watch it through VLC or torrent a version with subs.
Chungking is plebshit desu and I'm a diehard WKW fan. Fallen Angels is technically so much more interesting and has more to say about Hong Kong and his generation of filmmakers.
Brandon Thompson
Fallen Angels > Chunking Express.
Oliver Cruz
#1 film for me. Theres just a very comfy feeling that other films dont have.
Angel White
Every chinese film from Wong Kar Wai is pure KINO.
Michael Parker
I prefer Fallen Angels as well, but I disagree with you that Chungking is shit. It's great.

ICYMI, Wong Kar-wai is releasing 'Blossoms' in 2020. Apparently it's a follow-up to In the Mood for Love. Get hyped.
Jonathan Stewart
Interesting. Days of Being Wild is the first one right?
Luis Torres
Very nice
Noah Davis
Chuckking express Formerly heartbroken
Xavier Fisher
Yea but it was only ever the final scene of the film which is Tony Chinhchong getting ready to go gamble or some shit. He's actually retconning the trilogy so it's ITMFL -> 2046 -> Blossoms
