One X-Men has always been inspired by minority experiences. They literally have a Holocaust Victim and a guy asked to try not be a Mutant.
Two, they can make it kino but they'll have to work very hard to justify why the X-Men are feared and hated in a world where other Superheroes are worshipped and loved (mostly). It was the most confusing thing growing up. I don't think they can write this part of the X-Men away unless they want to make it not X-Men.
