But they couldn't do that in the tv show so they take Deep, who has very little to do in the comics anyhow, and use him as an early plot device. This is your first obvious taste of the poor writing in the show because Starlight is definitely too smart to have fallen for such a highschool trick even if Deep is shallow and stupid enough to pull it. There is no way she's that naive, when they try so hard later to show us that she's a strong, independent woman. In the rest of the season he gets straight shit on and made into a joke. He's eventually actually raped and exhibits behaviors observed in people who are sexually abused. None of this is funny but they play it like a joke.

If Deep is even in the next season he'll either just keep getting shit on or die brutally at some point in a way meant to seem poignant and decry sexual predation. All of it played for cheap laughs.
