luckily her scenes are short. 7/10 season overall. the second half picked up a bit and i like the direction the show is headed. first season was better though i think

They are trying to make Wendy's plot relevant to the crimes plot. Because she's studying sexual deviants, sexually repressed people and also people with non-conventional sexual proclivities. And how that all relates to violent crime.

So they ask the question of what the 'normal' equivelant of that is, in her relationship, and how it affects a non-psychopathic person's mental state. It's also one of the reasons why she is so upset by her girlfriend playing down their relationship to her ex and her son. She sees sexual repression and shame in an extremely negative light because she's used to relating to it as a precursor to violent killings.

It's the same with Holden's domestic plot from the previous season, that explored parallels between his obsessive personality and the killers. And it's the same with the plot about Bill's wife's son, although that one is quite obvious.

That's their goal with the domestic plots. They are related to the main storylines about crime. It's just not done particularly well. But they aren't unrelated, included Wendy's romantic plot. No matter how boring or poorly done it is.

I actually think his preformance is quite good and fits his character and that it only fell flat with his romantic chemistry last season.

I know it was intentional for his romantic attempts to fail, but do you think it was intentional to cast a gay actor in the role to make it seem even more alien and thus drive home his similarities to the killers?

I haven't seen him in anything else so I don't know if it's him, or the fact he's gay, or his character or what.
And straight actors often have dogshit chemistry and can't sell romance onscreen.
And gay actors often pull it off well.
