It was scripted in that the producers told them what games they were going to play that day but they were never given specifics. I also heard for the music games Wayne and whoever got to listen to them play the music beforehand so they knew what to expect for each genre of music. (IE they weren't told "You have to sing a song about plumbers in the style of RHCP" but maybe "we're going to pick a rock song and this is what it will sound like so be ready to sing in this style")

I always assumed there was a bit of rehearsal for the singing parts. Like, I know they're talented and funny dudes, but they NEVER hit a wrong note and they've got great jokes in there.

They knew the styles of music beforehand, like there was a setlist for colin/ryan to chose from and everyone involved had heard them before type thing, but the song was still made up on the spot relativity, they gave wayne 30 seconds/a minute or so to think up some rhymes right beforehand that gets cut out - this goes for all singing games like hoedown, and you can sort of see it in the bloopers IIRC.
