I was incredibly offended by what they did to the character of Irene Adler (why the fuck can't any Holmes adaptation except maybe the Brett one do her correctly?), is it true that she dies early on in the second? If she's gone it might be less hard to watch.

There's a tendency to depict her either as a yass queen slay badass girl power character (RDJ Holmes) or as a generic love interest who only reinforces what Holmes already is (BBC Sherlock). She's absolutely neither of these things.
Actually I think the Livanov Holmes show had a pretty good Irene, they just overdid the sexual angle a little bit.
