Someone post some screencaps of the angry MCUcks replying angrily.
Connor Ross
Can someone please explain what all this is about? From what I understand, Disney was paying Sony to let them use Spider-Man in their movies, because Sony owns the rights to the movie version of Spider-Man?
I don't really follow capeshit but this is interesting
Grayson Gray
Has there been a more pathetically forced thing than "I love you 3000"? It's not catchy at all and nobody says it, not iconic in the least
Luke Thompson
That's basically it, Sony got 95% of the profits, Disney tried to renogiate for more so Sony threw their toys out of the pram
Lucas Walker
It came time to renegotiate and Disney tried cutting Sony out of half the money. Sony said fuck that, we can just take him right back. Disney called the bluff, except apparently it wasn’t a bluff.
Daniel Parker
Sony did nothing wrong.
Nathan Sullivan
Sony is always doing something wrong. They just happen to be less wrong in this case.
Christian Walker

Lincoln Baker
>Disney was paying Sony to let them use Spider-Man in their movies
no, Sony has the right for Spiderman, for movies.
From what I understood, Disney took parts in the last ones made by Sony, mostly to get it well integrated with the MCU, but for only 5% of the money.
They asked for 50%.
Not clear what they offered for that, probably nothing and expect Sony to fear not getting 1 billion box office movies again without the MCU.
Ryan Ross
It's something Iron man told to his daugther in endgame.
Daniel Turner
more Spiderman movies, retard.
Robert King

>contract is up
>95% of movie money goes to Sony
>100% of merchandise money and 5% of first 2 week profit goes to Disney
>Disney wants a 50/50 split on movie money while still having 100% merch
>Sony tells them to go fuck themselves and pulls spiderman out
>Disney tries to spin it as Sony is the bad guy when in reality they got greedy and thought Sony would just bend over for them
Disney went full retard and fucked the MCU because of pure greed
Thomas Wilson
>Disney and Sony negotiate current deal
>Sony wants to keep the deal the same, where Disney gets 5%
>Disney says this isn't good enough and Disney ask for 50%
>Sony says that's way too high and suggests 25%
>Disney refuses offer
>Sony gives an offer
>Disney refuses
>Disney "leaks" to the press to cause public opinion to sway against Sony and apply pressure for negotiations
>Fanboy and girls are enraged at Sony, it works
All you are hearing is PR by both sides now
Chase Thompson
Lucas King
Explain why you think Disney is right here
Alexander Barnes
Didn't Sony also have to pay all the production costs? Or did i read wrong?
Carter Robinson
NOT THEIR FAULT YOU DUMBSHIT
Camden Nelson
Nathan Bennett
marvel offered cofinancing as well
Dylan Phillips
You retard.
Blake Cooper
If MCU's Spidey story was "one they've always wanted to tell" then good riddance desu. While i don't mind Holland as an actor their Spider-Man is one of the worst i've seen desu.
Jackson Jenkins
Ah ok, just checking. Thanks for the clarification user.
Jose Williams
Considering Sony Pictures has been teetering on the edge of bankruptcy for the better part of a decade, this can still backfire badly as far as Sony is concerned. The reason why they even agreed to the previous deal with Disney was because they had trouble securing funding for new blockbusters. If Disney cofinanced the film, it was basically a free ride for Sony.
Of course, Disney assumed that since Sony Pictures is still not very profitable they could simply name their price, considering that MCU Spideys were a licence to print money and would be the same for Sony (especially with cofinancing making it nearly risk-free for Sony as well).
Though, this could be all just a publicity stunt to allow the merchants to haggle the price and the two sides will eventually agree. Back before when the MCU Spidey deal was announced there were also big headlines of the negotiations being broken, yet the two companies reached an agreement anyway shortly after.
Benjamin Jenkins
Fuck Disney
Fuck Disney drones
And FUCK jannies
Gavin Green
YES, BUT INSTEAD OF 5% THE WANTED 50%.
Carter Powell
Next movie
>Ant Man: What happened to the kid? What was it arachna-boy?
>Whoever: Nobody's seen him since his identity was exposed, and we're not looking.
carry on
Cooper Richardson
I mean, it's clear to me that Disney is trying to buy out Sony by playing the long game. Sony makes a lot of money, if not the most of their income, from the Spiderman rights they own. HALVING that income would be sort of okay if Disney could guarantee that each movie would make billions. Then they'd make a decent profit despite giving half away but they'd be fully dependant on Disney.
Imagine if Disney decides to deliberately sabotage the Spiderman character in some way and the Spiderman movies barely make any money. That little bit of money it does make? Half of it would be taken away by Disney. Sony would go bankrupt faster than a jannie clicking on a blacked thread.
And, of course, then Sony Pictures and the rights they own are up for grabs.
Levi Kelly
hurr durr muh spidermon, muh superheroes noooooo

This pretty much. Just the fact the we bother debating and looking into this shit (while it doesn't really affect us) is playing right into either company's hands. So, all in all, FUCK Disney, FUCK Sony and FUCK Holland literally
Luis Reed
You don't have to imagine, Disney will prevent Sony from selling any merchandise which arguably earns the studio even more money than film tickets. They did the same with Fox and X-Men.
Brandon Wilson
Wyatt Martinez
Disney blew this out of proportions. People forget that this was always a limited time deal, Sony had with Disney, since day 1.
Jackson Robinson
"You will never reach the year 3000." Since we are in the 2000s.

I think this is the gist of it, I may be wrong about a few details.
>back in the day Marvel made an absolutely retarded deal where they sold the movie rights to Sony and Sony fully retains those movie rights as long as they release a movie every 6 years or so
>Spider-Man 4 falls apart because Raimi was pissed about Avi Arad's meddling and the whole cast walked with Raimi
>MCU starts in the meanwhile
>Sony releases TASM at the last minute to keep the movie rights
>it's shitty and doesn't make the money they want so they abort it after TASM2
>Marvel and Sony make a 6 picture deal I think where Spider-Man can be part of the MCU but Marvel gets very little out of it other than being able to use their character again
>Venom ends up being a huge success that grosses almost as much as Homecoming, but it's in an embarrassing limbo where Sony suggests it may be MCU like a kid lying about having a girlfriend in Canada but Marvel denies it
>Sony gets arrogant when the Marvel deal nears its end
>Marvel doesn't want to play ball because they've gotten most of what they wanted out of Spider-Man and didn't have much plans for him in Phase Four, nor do they want to do a multi-billion dollar buyback for a character that'll get a solo movie every couple years
>Tom Holland is still contracted for another movie and Sony thinks they can keep making satisfactory box office returns on their own without the MCU
Jackson Torres
I'm sure it was more like 30%
Ayden Gutierrez
>but Marvel gets very little out of it other than being able to use their character again
>full merchandise rights
