Face it: the wrong side won

How come there was no format war for 4k?

which format had the better version of A Walk to Remember? looking for any bonus content or extras

Because 4K came so quickly and Blu-ray was still a viable option for it. Not that casual consumers have been busy purchasing 4K capable sets. HD will be good enough for many for a long time.

HD DVD doesnt roll off the tounge. I know other factors played a part, but you need a catchy name.

i still dont get why they didnt call it hdvd

Blueray had already desensitized people to horrible quality so no one complained that movies looked like shit.

The PSTriple single handedly made bluray win

Then people would joke around and call it HPVd

No other company wants to take on the headache of creating a new competing format.

both are irrelevant nowaday

that's a horrible joke

i still dont get why they didnt call it Super HD

What? That makes no sense.

they should've called it mcdonaldsvision
then the burgerclaps would love it

If 360 came standard with HD DVD then it arguably would’ve won. PS3 sold like shit for the first few years. At least in comparison to the 360. Plus 360 came out a year earlier so HD DVD would’ve had that head start.

I chuckled at it

They also would have needed the 360 to be the cheapest HDDVD player like the nogames was for blu rays. Also pornography.

>If 360 came standard with HD DVD then it arguably would’ve won.
If Sega had put a DVD player in the Dreamcast, there would be no Xbox.

>"people: still buy DVDs are just stream everything
>even if you buy a blu ray it will most likely come with a DVD copy as well
shame really.

That’s true.

Don’t remind me of a better future.

>They also would have needed the 360 to be the cheapest HDDVD player
Not really. If adding an HD DVD drive would have added $100, it would have still been on par with the low-tier PS3 price at launch. The PS3 was fucking expensive. Don't forget, the early models literally had a PS2 inside them for backwards compatibility. That drove the price way up.

The increase in quality of picture allows you to see how shit the movie really is.

We'd be on about Shenmue 6 by now.

>the ps3 was fucking expensive

And yet it was still the cheapest blu ray player available for the first year or two of the format.

I buy all of my films on super 8

I was watching AVGN back then, he mentioned having a PS3 but not having any games for it.

I still can't believe that Sony sacrificed the ps3 so blu ray could win.

Because sony went full retard and designed a new cpu architecture. It had a decent catalog after a while but its still the weakest in the whole series of playstation consoles.

I thought for sure HD DVD would win. Lesson is, Sony always wins

don’t the few hd dvds have disc rot problems?

Physical media is dead.

Based Sony can do no wrong

Why not? Makes perfect sense from an executive boardroom's point of view.

Joke's on them though, Bluray is a zombie format.

Meh, PS3 had a decent exclusive lineup.
The PS4 however has been sorely lacking, especially considering some of the PS3 franchises that flat out died between this gen and last gen.

>physical

Not really. Standard blu ray disc bit rate is much higher than even "4k" streams from Netflix, vudu.

>Unironically being a zoomer

Blu Ray's store more data, is this a retarded Yea Forums contrarian meme ala the prequel trilogy is good?

You should really be watching this one on blu ray. At least the first 5 minutes.

Not true

Mmm no, it's 100% true.
Doesn't help that a bunch of PS4 games have been ported to PC and Switch in recent years.

But then they'd have to increase the 360 price and who knows if it would sell as well then. Probably not.

Ps3 sold great everywhere but America at launch. After Halo 3 came out, 360 sales went to shit and ps3 beat it in the US.

Ill never understand why /pol/ tards who post on Yea Forums buy sony consoles instead of buying American. Such hypocrites

>/pol/ tards who post on /v
No such thing. If you're on /pol/ and you enjoy any form of mass media you're not /pol/

physical media is dying

No way. Even if Dreamcast had a DVD player, it still would have been blown away by the PS2 regardless.

I can never fucking remember if it's bluray and bluetooth or blueray and blutooth. That's the biggest reason to hate bluray.
