I liked that they toned down the edgy humor and random cruelty.
There's still dark imagery and good irony, but it's no longer an edge fest.

Old Gaz > New Gaz

Bump

Why is GIR so cute.

It was okay.

>Old Gaz > New Gaz
Agreed. Also the character designs on some characters like Dib and Gaz were better in the original.

The edgy humor was funny, though. It made the show. That episode where Zim tries to look more human by stealing organs is still one of the best episodes in the series.

I don't understand this edge meme. What constitutes "Edgy" to you? Most of Zim wasn't edgy, it was just stupid.

it was very good. it was the big epic finale that the series never head, and it's gorgeous to look at on a big screen. I would be fine if they didn't make any more after this, it kind of tied everything up nicely.

There used to be a good amount of very cruel ironic humor in the original show, specially towards the liked of Dib. Some of the imagery was excessively dark and twisted.
Edgy doesn't necessarily mean there was violence or blood or shit, it just means it tried to present a menacing subtext on top of something that was supposed to stupid or cute.

Membrane is the best part.

I lost my shit when they revealed his robotic arms.

For children

the kids who watched it when it was originally on are all in their 20s now

>ripping a kids eyes out of his face
>torturing the baby germ to death
>replacing tge nurses brain with a can of dogfood

I'll admit it wasnt every episode but one in three eps had some sort of edgy death/maiming

Im 28 now and realize that i loved it cause i was smack dab in the middle of the shows target demographic

It's still for children, cartoons are made FOR CHILDREN

It was good and satisfied me. It was as much closure as I'd want from a show like Zim. Voice actors were great, especially Dib and Zim.

Most of the west only sees realistic art as mature. The more it visually copies the real the more mature it is. Anything else is either thought as "FOR CHILDREN" or to be used as high art for money laundering.
Imagination, style, abstract, thinking outside the box - grown-ups don't do that.

Funnily enough I watched it as a kid, loved it quite a bit, then went through my teenage years disliking it just because I was exposed to the fanbase. Now, as an adult, I feel bad for letting that shit get to me; as it is an amusing show.

Can I watch this without having seen the original series?

I think so, might not have as much payoff for you though
