Let me break it down for you dumb incels who don't read books.

Rey going "dark" is just a plot device for Kylo Ren's "redemption". They are pushing the idea that everyone has Darkness in them, yes even Rey! She's not actually going to go Dark, at most it will be a "what-if" scenario that shows how easily Rey herself could've taken the "wrong path". They might even go all-out and have a Light Side Jedi Ben Solo vision as well for contrast. In the end, Ben and Rey will come together and accept teh Darkness and Light and Redemption and love and blah blah blah.

Palpatine will do some cliche Evil Disney Queen shit to try and make them kill each other and to troll Anakin by trying to fuck with his Grandson but then Kylo does what Anakin should've done and he and Rey finish the old raisin off for good with the power of love.

Bonus points if everyone ends up force sensitive at the end of the movie for some cheesy reason.

What potential did they have though? Rey had already thoroughly established herself as an unlikable demigod by the end of act 2, Finn is a non-character, Harrison Ford completely phoned han solo in and just wanted that huge mousecheck, Leia was practically a gorgon, Luke was in it for ten seconds, phasma got dumped in the trash, hux and the rest of the first order come off as angsty anime teenagers, Kylo was cartoonishly stupid and evil, snoke had zero presence, poe was like a shitty MCU fanfiction character that disappeared for most of the movie without explanation, Maz Kanada is one of the ugliest and blandest alien characters in the whole franchise, the resistance vs the first order vs the new republic storyline was hilariously stupid, and starkiller base is far and away the dumbest thing in the whole series.

Dark Rey is retarded and doesn't fit the story they are trying to tell. Seeing Rey go "dark" isn't supposed to be "cool" or "badass". It's supposed to be tragic because that's not who she is at all. It's 100% a vision or alternate timeline. The only reason to play with the idea of Dark Rey is if they are using it to get her to understand Kylo more and sympathize with him and/or to use it as motivation for Kylo to get his shit together.

They block the saber, slide it down to hit the hilt or hand, and it's over. The audience is dumb as fuck. They are looking for something interesting about Rey when there's nothing at all to her character.
