Why can't movies get it right?
Why is video games the superior medium for horror?
Back to Yea Forums you idiot
Probably something to do with the player being able to control the character
Why ARE
PT is the only game to do it right, though.
PT was a jumpscare haunted house simulator with near photo-realistic graphics. Easy to be tense playing something like that.
>g-gwafix scawy!
I hope someone takes you seriously.
This. It's still 1 more than the amount of good horror movies
Imersion.
>not alien isolation
Fire in the Sky
MY BAD
This shit was 5 years ago already, why hasn't there been a full game with this quality yet? Are they just completely entranced by easy bucks from 10 year olds with garbage like fortnite and overwatch?
>why hasn't there been a full game with this quality yet?
Because trying to recapture the magic of anything is fucking stupid and never works.
>Are they just completely entranced by easy bucks from 10 year olds with garbage like fortnite and overwatch?
Yes. That and mobile games.
Visage looks like a good successor to PT.
you have whole steam store of this first person walking jumpscare shit
You're joking right?
>The Thing
>Mouth of Madness
>Jacob's Ladder(you know, the thing that if it had not existed your faggy little game would not even be here)
I could go on, but my point is how about you watch some movies before going on a rant about muh video games dumb Yea Forumsedditor.
Don't pretend like any of those indie kickstarter opportunists made a game even close to the same quality as PT. all those games look like PS2 ports, with mediocre at best writing and stock sound effects. Alien Isolation was decent but it got old fast.
this is the right answer. with movies and books you are always experiencing the spoopyness from an outside perspective. with vidya you don't watch a character walk down a flight of stairs and into a dimly-lit basement, you have to do it yourself.
I was in that stream the other night as well, OP
The 3 other Silent Hills and the first Outlast were terrifying
This is probably why horrors never works for me as horrors. I always see games as someone else's stories which is superior approach in every way than insertfagging.
Visage is on par with PT.
visage is better than PT
I find all of those entertaining save for Jacob's Ladder which is dull shit, but none of them are scary
RE7 was kino
It's certainly not superior, but scarier. You're afraid of your character as you don't want to repeat certain part of the game. Movies are non-interactive.
>horror games are scarier than horror movies but not superior
>both are meant to scare people and one of them does it better than the other but it's not superior
BRAINLET
Because in a game you have agency. You actually have to escape or disable the monster rather than just watch events play out on screen.
>didn't have a PS4 when PT was available
Konami bls, swallow you greed and pride at least once, you slant-eyed jews.
Higher fidelity will make a game scarier, to a point. A realistic looking face with bits of flesh hanging off and details will invoke more of a response than a polyhedron shaped head that vaguely resembles a zombie.
Hackjima is to blame for wasting money on hanging with celebs
Ok bro's for real how the FUCK would this even be scary in real life? Oh no the lights are kinda off so its a bit dark ahhhhh. Oh no theres some anorexic crack whore monster that weighs like 80 lbs soaking wet I guess I'm done for!!!
it's not about insertfagging, but about being in control of the character's actions. that's what makes it scary.
Nyes, fucking cuckjima. Wasting money and making vidya when you can waste no money and make gatcsha shit and slotmachines.
This isn't true at all
>making vidya
He's too busy sitting in parking lots with the Walking Dead guy
Video games can often work better when it comes to scariness due to their interactivity and first-person perspective but movies are much better when it comes to storytelling and character development
It's a spirit, any strength or weapons you might have are worthless. Something has come back from the pitch black beyond the dirt and the worms to fuck you up.
id shit myself before reaching for the nearest blunt object.
>pours a ring of salt around me
heh nothing personal spirit fag.
Chalk circle is enough.
>storytelling
debatable.
>character development
debatable and also irrelevant when it comes to conveying horror.
If you want to summon a demon maybe
No surprise this board is filled with neanderthals
My nigga!
Alien Isolation is legitimally better than any of the movies
>he believes he is really there and not playing a videogame in his room
Great argument. I definitely feel the same thing looking at these two versions of a game.
This that game is awesome. It was fun and spooky could not ask for a better game.
Both are looking like shit, the left one just left your imagination way more room to make you feel something.
Poor graphics are a staple in video game horror because they offer a sense of alienation between the player and the threat. Their lack of clarity is effectively uncanny and memorable. It's clear you haven't played many video games though so there doesn't seem much point in arguing to a child. I'm sure you think that gore = horror
