They weren't evil, they were just a bunch of weird out-of-touch monks that had a historical significance and therefore were given more importance than they should have had.

They were tools of evil. They were to secure in their own righteousness and lost the ability to distinguish between true right and wrong. Their practice of forbidding attachment isn't a natural way for people to live. It was morally wrong and DIRECTLY created a monster like Darth Vader. Vader could only be saved by love, and they refused to give it to him. Only a half-trained heretic like Luke could save him, and the funny part is that the last few Jedi are telling him not to try it right up until he goes and does it. They're like "no, murder your dad, it's the right thing to do" and they fault him for thinking it's fucked up. But he was right and they were wrong, had he killed Vader he would have become the emperor's slave and the rebel alliance would have been destroyed. Then later when Luke became a Jedi proper, he became grew complacent that he was a "Great Jedi Master", became self-righteous, forgot the moral rectitude he once had, and created another monster in Kylo Ren by his own implacable moralism.

Not everything about the Jedi is bad and most of the Jedi themselves aren't bad people, but the Jedi organization creates almost all the problems in the movies because they believe that you can give people super powers and it will be ok as long as you tell them "now don't catch feelings about this or you'll turn into a selfish monster!" No, feelings are the only things that can save us from evil.

I'm gonna offer some insight but the redditor soiboys among us are sure to jump in and disagree and it won't mean shit since it's correct.

The catholic church was famous for providing sanctuary within the church. Basically a criminal could declare "sanctuary" when inside gods home the church and be immune to government and laws and now under gods protection. In some societies this meant the priests would hide the criminal (see: Zoro).

In societies where gays were persecuted the catholic church actually protected them, along with other sexual deviants for the same reason. The church never said these things were right but it was their job to provide protection for them from society and government, along with helping the poor by providing welfare and food to them. The catholic church were similar to what leftists want the government to be in the welfare way. they were where you got welfare before the welfare state.

Anyway naturally other groups that society hated and still hates are pedos and rapists and murders. The catholic church protected gays and pedos and all sorts by making them priests, where they were forbidden from sex for instance so there was no problem.

Anyone who doesnt see how the troubles happen and anyone who thinks the catholic church is evil for this is a moron or ignorant. Yes pedos are bad. Yes gays are bad if you step back 50 years. The catholic church is not bad for protecting either. It is their moral responsability to offer sanctuary and protection.

At the end of the day their fuckup was not dealing with and tossing out anyone that acted out, although that's a problem with literally any massive organisation or power structure. In this instance they're the ones that got caught but it's more egregious when they're supposed to uphold morality, I'm not happy to say it but I don't see the catholic church recovering in my lifetime at least.
