At least Star Trek has The Orville. Does Star Wars have any not-Star Wars series fans can watch?

Star wars of course. I would be surprised if it exceeded TLJs box office domestically world wide.

Well, they both have alienated a good chunk of their old fanbase. But atleast Star Wars has multiple projects in different media forms, the only thing Star Trek has done lately is a single shitty show on a single exclusive subscription service. Star Wars is better suited to branch out and collect new fanbase and market shares, I don't see that happening for Star Trek right now.

Star Wars.

I would say Star Wars because like said, there's no alternative to Star Wars.
Also the sad thing about Star Wars is that there's no way to fix the franchise. It has been destroyed by Disney.

On the other hand, Star Trek having much less recent material also means there is less terrible Star Trek material, as oppossed to the flood of shit that SW is getting.

SW is still pretty big and famous franchise. Star Trek barely come out of nerd culture.

StarWars, because Star Trek wasnt that big the last 10-15 years. So StarWars fell much deeper than StarTrek.

Does Marvel movies count as alternative?

star wars is in far worse shape

the recent trek movies sucked, but they didn't shit all over trek's core themes. and while the new trek TV show DOES shit all over pretty much everything, no one's watching it. because it's on CBS' streaming service and who gives a fuck.

furthermore, trek has a built-in mechanism to change everything -- alternate realities. they've already done it at least once; the new movies are in a new reality and the upcoming Picard TV show is in the old one.

besides all that, there's one reason star wars is utterly fucked: the people in control. star wars will never recover until the people running the show are gone. trek has people who aren't completely incompetent, brainwashed SJW morons.

>Star Trek barely come out of nerd culture
wrong. star trek helped create modern nerd culture. remember it's been around longer than star wars, and for the late 80s and 90s, there were no new star wars movies or TV shows. trek was still going strong.

Doctor Who.

Just as they were about to crack US market with Matt Smith they replace him with an angry old man and then an inoffensive white chick. The show is fucked.

I agree. Star wars is rotten from the core. The head decisions and the staff selection by diversity points rather than creativity points hurt the franchise on a longterm.

>At least Star Trek has Seth McFarlane cramming his tiresome politics and religion bashing into Star Trek!
Spock help us.

Both are pretty fucked, but at least nu-ST still has some respect for the old shows and characters.
Nu-SW shitted on absolutely everything with TFA and TLJ.

Hi, CBS

It's got to be Trek, JewJew turned a contemplative sci-fi series into a whizboombang action series that, while initially interesting a large number of people, cannot possibly keep them invested. But the studios are absolutely retarded and are now sticking to his vision of what Star Trek is, which the fans absolutely do not want.

At least Star Wars, after faltering with Ruin Johnson, is trying to course correct.

There isn't really a "StarTrek" completionist requirement. I love TNG and like DS9 as well but I have no desire to watch anything beyond that. TNG holds up great and I just rewatch episodes of that. 177 hours of quality Star Trek

Meanwhile Star Wars fans are forced to keep up with a continually declining "saga" and shameful fandom. Being a Star Wars fan is shameful and disgusting at this point

Star Trek has been shit for quite some time, and even in its prime it was nowhere as awesome as Star Wars, so the fall is definitely greater with SW

How many times did JewJew fucked Trek anyway? Star Wars will get another serving of him.

>yfw trekkies and warsies unite against jj

At least JJ’s garbage in Star Trek is specifically in an alternate universe.
Disney literally decanonized a universe for JJ’s shit in Star Wars.

> fell much deeper

that they are falling at all.. toxic leadership...

>At least JJ’s garbage in Star Trek is specifically in an alternate universe.
CBS put one of JJ's writers in charge of the tv version of Star Trek. To them, STD and the rest of the Kurtzmanverse crap takes place in the same universe as TOS and the Berman era.
All the shit that is written now is "canon".

They still kept his style of writing and direction even after he left though, STD is a continuation of his shit. And despite what he claims it isn't an alternate universe, Star Trek Online has been altered to fit his storyline.

both bad

Yeah wtf was that old dude prob?

>Which franchise is in the worst shape right now, SW or ST?
Star Wars is fucked because of Disney and Kathleen Kennedy.
There is hope for Star Trek because of the CBS/Viacom merger. Canon can be restored, although they will have to write themselves out of the holes dug by JJ and STD.

>There is hope for Star Trek because of the CBS/Viacom merger
What makes you think that? Everything they did separately was crap, I don't see a reason to think that joining forces will make anything except doublepluscrap

Hard to say. Star Wars has Clone Wars season 7 coming out. That seems like the only half decent thing left for the franchise. But they're stuck with the First Order sequel shit.

Star Trek is garbage right now but the franchise is more versatile. They could easily just set the reset button on anything they're doing and hire a new ship and crew. Picard might be good against all odds.

>Canon can be restored
It won't happen, user. Kurtzman has his hands on the franchise, he has started a bunch of spin-offs (all dumb ideas). He would rather destroy the franchise than make Trek great again.

>Star Wars has Clone Wars season 7 coming out.
Don't forget that it's been rewritten to be Disney/LF friendly.

We will wait and see. The stupid merchandising interests have been fucking up Star Trek for ten years now. The merger may well put an end to that.

Attached: 1549935397195.jpg (1262x1005, 285K)

Star Trek can start a new series at any place and any time, but it has to be episodic and utilize good writers. It's actually the perfect timing for a legitimate episodic style show, long form "binge" tv has been exhausted. Just because there have been shit series of Star Trek doesn't mean all future series are doomed, but the writers are fucking retarded, especially at CBS

Best thing they can do is have Picard as a borg enemy or a Q in a new series, but only for two episodes max

>spaceshit will die in your lifetime

I saw that one ST film with Chris Pine and I didn't think it was awful. I'm not a ST fan though so maybe that has something to do with it.

Does it matter when now the "canon" Star Trek shows are taking cues from JJ's Trek films?

>Yay more capeshit! Leave the bottle glug glug glug

It was tailor made for the 'not a Star Trek fan' audience

The spaceshit must flow

I teach at an elementary school and did a survey. Turn out, most of the kids don't care about starwars and even less of them care about the new movies. The majority of them that liked star wars prefers the older movies.

It's an OK action flick but it was pretty much coasting off recognition of the IP and a "pop culture" understanding of Star Trek including basically forgetting Dr McCoy is a character.

It almost seems like our society has to make a crusade out of getting kids to read books and not turn into corporate marvel fags covered in tattoos and have an opinion on their vape juice blend.

They're making eisenhorn tv, bro

>I didn't think it was awful.
>I'm not a ST fan though
The JJ-Trek movies weren't made for Star Trek fans. They were movies made for non-fans/TBBT/FunkoPop-fake geeks based on the Star Trek elements in the "pop culture", even if those elements are wrong like for example: people think that Kirk used to put his dick into every female alien he would encounter.
You get pop culture references like: "Dammit Jim, I'm a X not a Y", the Enterprise, Kirk-Spock relationship (no Bones, because people have never watched TOS and don't know that the duo was in fact a trio: Kirk, Spock and Bones), the Sabotage song because of that out take of Shatner having issues pronouncing "sabotage".

please stop with this picture please

They ended up destroying one of the best antagonists in order to kick start the nu trek movies though. The destruction of the Romulan home world and collapse of the empire is now canon in the prime universe, all in the service of a medicore explosion fest

>The destruction of the Romulan homeworld
by the star in the Romulus system going supernova without anyone noticing the changes throughout the years somehow.
>collapse of the empire
That's what does not make sense to me (more than the supernova). It really looks like Kurtzman didn't know that the Romulan Empire was a star empire, it spans on countless systems in the quadrant. A planet blowing up won't change shit, the refugees will find a place on another planet within the Empire.
I really hate that this is canon.

There were already catastrophic issues with the canon thanks to Voyager and Enterprise going too far with boneheaded time travel plots. Anything happening now is just further decay.
