Just read his wikipedia. He was diagnosed as a pyschopath, fought with everyone he knew, raped his daughter while she was aged 5-19, and sexually cuddled his other daughter who is younger

I hate opera
I really hate that 70s european filmstock that gives everything that particular colour/appearance/texture
I didn't really relate to the characters or find many of them very deep

Fair enough. Fitzcarraldo pretty much revolves around the opera anyway, with him basically doing what he does because of his love of the opera.
