>F1 adds a second race in the US to gain more viewership in the US >Puts it up against a NASCAR Cup race which gets on average 4 to 5 times the viewership of an F1 race >On a race day without another major race >And literally no one would have taken issue with a noon start time So will the France family be happy or upset if the MiamiGP does well?
Asher Baker
>Smokey Yunick Spent 40 years telling the France family they could get fucked >Tim Richmond Legendary character and all-time talent but only had one great season in '86
Jack Peterson
I think NASCAR's approach right now is that anything that's good for the popularity of racing is good for NASCAR. I think NASCAR will take having to compete with F1 because it beats the alternative where neither is relevant.
Zachary Adams
I suppose there is a point to be made on the claims that a rising tide lifts all boats, after all motorsports as a whole is seeing an attendance and viewership upturn in a time sports in generally is seeing the opposite. Still, you'd think Liberty would be smart enough to not go up against NASCAR like that in the US given how much larger the American audience for NASCAR is. F1 and IndyCar have significant overlap with NASCAR's viewership so the three overlapping is always a bad idea, having the MiamiGP at noon would have made more sense.
Michael Gomez
I would guess from F1/Liberty's perspective they don't feel any obligation to play nice with either NASCAR or IndyCar. Pinnacle of Motorsports and all that. That being said I hope if a Drive to Survive-style series happens in NASCAR it doesn't get stuck on fucking Peacock which doesn't have near the pull Netflix has.
Luke Roberts
>Pinnacle of Motorsports and all that. If that's the attitude they have, things won't bod well long term given NASCAR wants foreign races and IndyCar, well it accidentally found itself in direct competition with F1 before for a reason. Then again that arrogance led to CART becoming direct competition and led to some of the best racing of all time.
Connor Campbell
Anyone else read the Sage Karam story in The Athletic?

Finally talked about trauma/survivor's guilt from Pocono 2015 >Went through severe depression after the crash, became a shut-in, couldn't ignore people who told him it was his fault >Tried partying/drinking and it just made everything worse >Tried going back to Pocono in 2018 >Got shook so badly by Wickens' crash that his father found him in the fetal position between two cars in the parking lot >Admits the trauma ruined his IndyCar career and says he probably wouldn't be racing if it wasn't for Dreyer & Reinbold giving him an annual Indy 500 seat >Ed Carpenter helped him because he went through something similar when Paul Dana got killed >Most rewarding experience was when Stefan Wilson introduced Justin's two daughters to Sage and he found out Justin's kids didn't hate him >Running the Xfinity race at Pocono later this year to try and finally get over what happened
Kevin Cruz
Dude let's schedule our races based on hypothetical competition for one of our smallest TV audiences and one fucking Quebec autist that won't shut the fuck up instead of the local attendance and the other 99% of the people watching
Austin Clark
i dont really follow indycar that much but damn, dudes been through alot, id like to see him have some success
