Mace Windu is one of the reasons Anakin never felt true loyalty to the Jedi Order and it's dogma. He was always a hard-ass and mistrustful of Anakin.

In Legends - Qui Gon follows the code, but interprets it as he sees best, and ignores what the council tell him it should be. He is more devoted to the will of the force than the Jedi, and believes that the darkside is a corruption of the forces desire
