Anyone else finds this character's concept a little odd?

>only stars in B-plots totally disconnected from the main show and its characters (a handful of interactions with the family per season)
>clearly cast for being talented enough to carry said plots by himself
>but relegated strictly to B-plots

It's funny

The creator of the show said the writers discovered early on that they wanted to do way too much with Francis and there wasn't enough material to do the whole family in each ep by comparison.

what? that makes no sense

He’s the ‘Tales of the Black Freighter’
He provides insight into the other characters, but his stories need to be mostly disconnected from the other stories for this to work.

Interesting... of course, he only ever really talks about Lois. Neat idea, but under utilized if true. For instance, his relationship with Duey and Reese is basically non existent.

It made the show much more entertaining. It would be cool to see a spin off series from his perspective

Francis doesn't need to talk to or about the other brothers for the show's purposes because the idea is they were cast from the same mold that he was. He alludes to his experiences with Lois because that's what defines his and his brothers' upbringing and explains their actions.

He's a Masterson so they kept him off the main set to avoid any rapes

For that matter, why did Malcolm need to be a genius? Talk about a barely used plot point for something that is supposedly the overarching conceit of the show

>barely used
You dense motherfucker

he had entire episodes dedicated to him as well as like 3 whole big story arcs

He's relentlessly handsome. I want to kiss him relentlessly.

Cringe relentless poster

But it is barely used. It's referenced maybe 1-3 times per season and appears to have no effect on his character, who is a normal boy almost exactly like his brothers.

At what point did the show jump the shark?

Also that peep episode was kino

No, he represents older siblings who leave the house. Most people know that feel. Otherwise their world is a changeless bubble like a cartoon.

I liked him more than Danny, shame he never got much work outside Malcolm.

I honestly can't name an episode that I truly disliked. Malcolm is an extremely consistent sitcom.

>But it is barely used.
There's whole episodes based around him and his other genius friends. One of the tenets of Malcolm's character is how different he is to everyone, including his own family

Sweet, a Malcolm thread.

Hal > Reese > Francis > Dewey > Lois > Malcolm.

What about the finale?

How can one man be so wrong?

Hal=Francis>Malcolm=Lois>Reese=Dewey

I thought it was a little bit rushed but I liked it.
Oh and I want to fix what I said before, the only episodes I disliked was the Lois' mother ones. I fucking hated that old hag, what a shit character. Every time she appeared I prayed for Francis to punch her in the face.

Malcolm is an annoying prick. He was the worst member of the family.
Reese is funny as funny as fuck and Dewey is Malcolm but based.

the kids got sexually abused behind the scenes. stop looking fondly on this show

One of the things that I always found odd was that Malcolm was always portrayed as the self-aware nerd genius, but never really displayed characteristics that would truly mark him as a social outcast other than being really smart. He'd often find himself being super rebelious, but somehow that never translated to a more active social life in the show.

In particular I recall the episode where he's started to hang out with other kids his age and they invite him to a Thanksgiving party where he almost scores with this really hot blonde, but later in another episode where the popular girls are trying to use him and Reese to get back at their boyfriends he's yet again portrayed as the social outcast, and then again in the prom episode.

I understand that the fundamental flaw of his character is that he's an egomaniac who believes he's always right and above everyone else because of his intellectual superiority but still.

Maybe I'm just reading too much into all of this.

I just finished my rewatch of Malcolm few days ago. First time I watched it since I was a kid. Such a well written show, all the jokes are silly on the surface but clever at the same time.

I thought this meme was dead.

He's unevenly written because the writers didn't feel like consistently incorporating the genius thing into the show.

Relentlessly cringe counterposter

tt

Whatever happened to his career

Dewey > Malcolm > Reese > Hal >>> Francis >>>>>>>>>>> Lois >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Wheels

like all actors with tv shows in syndication they never have to work ever again

When it ended

>One of the tenets of Malcolm's character is how different he is to everyone, including his own family
But his genius isn’t the source of that you pleeb. It’s his personality and neuroticism. I bet you think he is the smartest person in the family to don’t ya faggot.
>he’s not

It’s genius tbqh. The Francis stuff was like a show within a show. His storyline prevented the A-plots from becoming stale.

You're right. Dewey is smarter than Malcolm.

Yup

>But it is barely used.
I'm rewatching the show and that is a straight up fucking lie. It defines who he is and he is reluctant to take that role. There are plenty of episodes that show off his smart side, but that comes along with his social awkwardness. He only seems competent when paired with the kids in his class who are too obnoxious to realize it and his family who range in incompetence. He's a kid for a majority of the series raised in a dysfunctional house. You shouldn't expect him to behave anything outside of a child even if he's smart.

>It's a Hal episode
I cant think of a single moment where I'm not laughing when Hal is on screen

>the speedwalking episode
holy shit my sides have never been the same since

From best to worst
>Francis
>Hal
>Reese
>Malcolm (I like seeing him get his comeuppance)
>Dewey
>Lois

>that episode where his wrist got slit open in the garage
Shouldn't have called the one guy a kike to his face desu

Not than user but I like seeing Malcolm get really cocky then get his comeuppance. I dunno I like it. Kinda like Daffy Duck or Tom the cat

Kill yourself faggot

he kind of looks like a white sakurai

It makes sense. Think of the clique episode. He actually makes a couple of friends (albeit they're morons) and doesn't get fucked with but then he spergs out and fucks it up because he called them morons. Or the basketball teams episode. He made the team but then fucked it up cause he kept talking shit to the coach

The people who avoid him are aware of his autist actions. The people who befriend him just think he's really smart and maybe quirky but they find it endearing.

So yeah, it's his big mouth and inflated ego that fucks him up

he forgot what happened

Love the moment when he keeps stealing the wrong shopping bag, looking for a gift for Lois kek

It had a few moments that were poor quality but I thought it was consistent overall.

I don't think Dewey is smarter. Depends what you mean. I don't think Dewey could rattle off numbers the way Malcolm did in season 1. But Malcolm got in trouble a lot because he was impulsive and didn't think it through, like the episode where he and Stevie sneak out

I think they wanted to get around Malcolm being the stereotypical 'genius' kid in a sitcom. Yeah he's very smart and good in school but he's still a kid who has the same urges and wants as others. I always liked the episode where Malcolm cheated on a test for Reese because he was nearly being held back by a teacher who hated him. When the teacher and Hal/Lois find out she's perfectly willing to screw Malcolm academically over Reese because she knows Malcolm can work it out where as Reese couldn't.

His character ruined the title of the show.
With him it should've been called Malcolm 3/4 or something like that.

I audibly keked

Dewey had streetsmarts and he could fully assess the situation and make it work in his favor.
Reece also had streetsmarts, but he was too impulsive so it never paid off for him.

What the hell are you talking about?

>that episode with all the Christimas presents stored under the stairs
Peak kino t'b'h

That whole episode was kino.
>"where do I sleep?"
>"you're sitting on it"
>"does it fold out or something"
>"yeees, it is a magical couch that will fold out for people that are stupid"

Maybe the producers realised he was too old to diddle so they separated him
