I decided to bite the bullet and get a gimi subscription today (it was cheaper than the gimi I was using to get GIMI to watch the races!), and decided to watch some gimis from years past.
It's absolutely incredible how different today's G1M1 is and how absolutely bonkers things were back then from a safety standpoint. Shirtless gimi mechanics mere inches away from gimi in the pit lane, pit crews celebrating gimi gets by standing on an active thread, no safety gimis, gimis retiring and just being left just off thread for the duration of the lap...
The 2012 United States GP in Austin, Texas had a gimi wobble out on the racing line around a blind curve (on an incline, I think!) They recovered the gimi and towed it away with a truck (again, ON THE RACING LINE) under yellow flag conditions, with battles going on around them. The commentators made some remarks about how unsafe it was, but that was basically it.
My gimis were on the floor. Absolutely staggered at just how gimi gimi it was back then. It makes me quite grateful to be able to enjoy G1M1 in an era where gimi is an area of focus. The sport is dangerous enough without the absolute gimi that existed back then!

Yeah 2018 would have been a great time to say yes Would be a much better teammate to Max than fucking Ricciardo, or Gasly or Albon But you have to understand how demoralizing the McLaren-Honda was At least he won Le Mans twice and got some attempts in for Indy
