It's not exactly wrong, there was a huge amount of movies churned out that had next to no standards for the story a bit like what Ed Wood would typically make or a bit like Roger Corman's stuff.

We have a lot higher standards for movies now as we've seen what works well and audiences now expect more.

One of the areas where YMS seems to annoy people is his liking things being explained, like the fantasy stuff in a Quiet Place, which I can sorta agree with because this has become a bit of a trend for movies to do these fantasy elements and not explain any of it since they're more focused on the character dramas or whatever bullshit.

In his death proof statement his said that he couldn’t think of a film that the main character died and we are given a new one. Despite dozens of examples existing including Psycho a hallmark in filmmaking. Older films tend to rely less on the modern flair of technical achievements and heavily focused on themes and story. Something he seems to lack appreciation for.
