OK so, honestly, what does this mean for the future of Marvel? They've lost Iron Man, Captain America and Spiderman. I'm sure their movies will keep making money for a while, but how sustainable are they really?
>Captain Marvel
Bad reviews. Even positive reviews really obviously had to justify it to themselves and acknowledge the ton of flaws it had. Considering her name and the timing of her appearance, it seems like she's been set up as the new tentpole character for the universe. So the flat reception to this character is a bad sign for the franchise.
>Black Panther
The black audience will probably keep this one afloat, but even so Marvel needs to be making Avengers money, not competing with whatever shitty Taraji Henson comedy comes out every month. Killmonger was the standout of the first film, and he's gone. How much do people really care about T'Challa himself?
>Thor
The only remaining original avenger, and he had to become a parody of himself just for people to watch his movies. And Taika Watiti seems dead-set on subverting and dismantling every element of the superhero genre, so it's only a matter of time before he gets collared by Disney.
>Guardians
Their novelty is gone, and the consensus was that the sequel was a step down from the first movie. That, and all the controversy with James Gunn is an issue.
>Hulk
I guess Hulk is still one of the original avengers, but Ruffalo Hulk has never even had his own movie.
>Ant-Man
Another case where the sequel got lukewarm and negative reviews by Disney standards.
>Doctor Strange
Still untested in terms of staying power in sequels.
>Black Widow
She's dead, and replacing her with a younger one won't fix the issue that she is just a lady who fights and shoots guns.
