I can't get over how good the cast of characters are in Evangelion. Every single characters complements one another. They are no weak links, no repetitions, everyone is so boldly and clearly defined and has their function. It's just a joy to watch them. I'd watch an entire series of these characters just going about their daily business without any of the robot/angel shit. A whole episode of Shinji and Asuka trying to bake a cake for Misato's birthday or something stupid like that. I'd fucking watch it and enjoy it

I didn't really care about the mystery of the Angels or NERV until then either, and I think the reason the ending worked is because the idea of instrumentality seamlessly connects back to Shinji's character and his struggles. The plot only works because it complements the characters' journeys.

Somebody was talking about how the waifu wars were holding discussion of Evangelion back, and I came to a realization about it. I think the waifu wars are only happening because many viewers aren't ready to admit that deep down they identified at some point with Shinji's "Fuck me?
