I think 1-9 is good. 3 introduces Suzihara and glasses kid and shows them (and us) the impact piloting is having on Shinji, 4 explores Shinji's character, 5/6 explore Rei, 7 is meh, 8 introduces Asuka, 9 is the fun episode where Asuka and Shinji have to learn to work together. Yes, and it's because on one hand the audience mostly understands Rei is meant to represent how women in the past usually behaved, and on the other hand since Anno himself doesn't understand women he hasn't shown anything about what motivates characters like that, but instead wrote in some filler content more in line with the plot about angels instead of the archetype she represents.

The original series on it's own is terribly paced and many of the episodes were rushed/cut due to budget constraints. The Christian symbolism carries it making it seem like a Shakespearean play when it's just two characters yelling at each other in mostly unjustified anger most of the time. The supplementary movie that released is called end of Evangelion for fucks sake. Over half the people here will regurgitate video essays they saw/read as if it's their own opinion to pretend they understand the plot. Eva is more of a cult at this point than an anime. And it's a shame because it is really enjoyable and a cut above compared to everything else. But people putting it on some pedestal hurts it more than anything.

Except in reality what happens is women often don't do those jobs at all. All of the freedom afforded to women these days is destroying the ability for people to raise healthy children, or just have a fulfilling life in general. Even though men and women are so different women in the early 20th century were not directly barred from getting a job either, so what is wrong with that sort of society to you?
