Is season 2-4 the best run of sci fi television? and if so why

You know why, JMS was an absolute lunatic who devoted years of his life to something that shouldn't have been possible. And now we're forever doomed to hear smarks cry about "they're making it up as they go along, why don't they plan anything" until the stars do really burn out

I mean it is absolutely crazy how even filler episodes come into play later on. Shit even the King Arthur ep gives insight to an important even

It's a shame season 1 is so inexcusably awful.

Yeah but the stuff they set up is pretty impressive for a show happening at that time

shameless bump

>Is season 2-4 the best run of sci fi television?
Yes.
>and if so why
Because the bar is really low.

No because Farscape season 3 exists

looks pretty faggy to me

acquire taste or just go back to your marvel films then

I never got the feeling that Babylon 5 was making it up as they went along
though I don't get it was Sinclair supposed to have Sheridan's role and then go into the past and become Valen after the end of the show?

Farscape does character development like Babylon 5 does plot development
I wish there were a show that did both, especially now that syndication is no longer a concern

I liked stargate SG1 more

SG-1 just comes off as really generic, which is fine if that's what you're into but while I liked it I always found it a bit boring
you always knew exactly what was going to happen each episode about five minutes in

>I never got the feeling that Babylon 5 was making it up as they went along
Are you joking me nigger?

OUT OF MY WAY NARN FUCKING SHITS

I'm watching this nightly on Comet now and enjoying the hell out of it. 1 Eps of SG1 and then 2 Eps of B5 is an excellent lineup. Literally can't go wrong.

i really do enjoy sg1 and even atlantis but yea like you said it is extremely generic and boring at times, the only thing it really has going for it is the chemistry of the characters, every other aspect of the writing is trash. still manages to be one of my favorite shows though, but its like, the least favorite of my favorites i guess. i dont know how anyone could put it above b5 and farscape and tng/ds9

Is season 1 mostly space anomaly of the week stuff or do they set up some long running arc there already

it has main plot episodes as well as "event of the week" type episodes but even many small details from the "event of the week" episodes have some bearing on later events

I don't watch tranny shows.

a lot of the episodes are laying the foundation for stuff that pays off in later seasons, it's not 90% disposable like say the first seaosn of TNG.

G'kar and Londo were the best.

An honest to gods proper story that developed with no pacing issues.

Fantastic character arcs.

Better sets and actors/acting

Season 1 is the worst for sure but there are a handful of good episodes and even all the bad ones do a lot for world building. There is also a *lot* of foreshadowing that everyone missed on first watch.

Yes

Currently watching for the first time and am on season three are the movies any good?

one movie is basically the real pilot episode, its not particularly good but it has some important plot developments i guess, people shit on third space but i like it as its own self contained standalone story that takes place between major arcs adds to vorlon lore and world building. haven't seen any of the other ones but i heard the one with dukhat and the beginning of the earth mimbari war is good

I'd only recommend watching the movies after seeing the show as most of them aren't that good but do offer some extra backstory. Agree that the Minbari war one is the best of the bunch.

god damn that vid is sad. nice to hear that jms didnt just dump o'hare but actually helped him get food and worked with his family and stuff well after he left the show. it seems like he genuinely cared about the guy

Pretty much every actor on this show has an interesting story
O'Hare's story is infamous with his battle with addiction and mental illness
the guy who played G'Kar was a career character actor with a huge imdb list, his death effected the whole cast deeply
the first officer chick was in a bunch of cannon b movies
Jerry Doyle, the security guard, had a semi-successful career as a conservative radio pundit before losing a battle with alcoholism
Based Billy Mumy who played Lennier was the original Will Robinson in Lost in Space. He was one of the only 60's child stars to stay clean his whole life, he grew up in Hollywood so he has a lot of interesting stories.

The stories of Jerry Doyle and Andreas Katsulas living with each other while working on the show are kino

>Katsulas literally lived on Coffee and cigarettes and nothing else.

>before losing a battle with alcoholism

sheeeit. that kinda makes his character arch all the more.. impactful I guess

user that's what writing fiction is, making stuff up as you go along

Fuck the Narn!

They literally hired broken out of work actors because they were cheap. That's what happens when you don't have a Star Trek budget.

Mostly because they had a fully formed story planned out beforehand, and barring a few road bumps, they were able to tell that story. They weren't winging it, the network didn't stick their dick in it and make too many ridiclous demands (like what happened to Crusade).

>Is season 2-4 the best run of sci fi television? and if so why
Yes. Because it had a great plot that was developed before the episodes were filmed.

Shame we'll never see it on BluRay.

>there will never be modern re-rendered CGI ships because they lost the original models when the computer they were on died

They'd have to remake every single visual effects shot from scratch. WB isn't going to dump millions of dollars per season to do that.

>amiga 64 graphics
And nothing of value was lost.

give examples pls

I think you could get away with just redoing the battles in passable CG. I don't think that would be that expensive.

They're charming.

didn't they make them in Video Toaster?

>I think you could get away with just redoing the battles in passable CG. I don't think that would be that expensive.
If you wanted it to look like the original stuff, probably. But it would be time consuming.

Now if you wanted to do upscaled graphics (like they did for TNG and ST:OS) that's where it would be expensive.

And then there's the cost of upgrading the series to 1080 if not 4k.

The technology to upscale old shit without the source files is coming along.

soulless.

I just watched Farscape and despite it being pretty enjoyable I feel like I was memed on by a bunch of women or something. It's good, but nowhere near as good as I was promised and it slowly gets worse as Aryn becomes the lead.

For me? It's Susan Ivanova.

Bare in mind this is just fans putting images through commercial software. A few years down the line, real artists might be able to do great things with this tech.

>devoting years of your life to ripping off LotR and posting on Usenet
Actual lunacy

*gives quilt*
*shoots blank*

I love the show but I do agree the Crichton and Aeryn romance become the center of it in S3/4 is stupid
it really conflicted with the weird sexuality that had permeated the show earlier on

That's a good way to put it. I loved the individual characters and how they interacted, but the overarching plot that started with their romance butchered that fun more often than not. Season 3 was hyped up as amazing, and I just got lukewarm Buffy/Angel styled romance that I wanted to end. Scorpius brain games were the only things I had to look forward to.

It felt better than most first seasons of trek shows, but I ara autist.

Damn... 90s clip bigger than life. I don't know how they did it, but they really made something big here.

huh, ive seen the show probably 6 or 7 times but i never made this connection before, i just realized that in this scene you have kosh talking to g'kar via his strung up father just like you later see kosh talk to sheridan through a vision where he takes the form of sheridans father

all narns should be strung up
