What language is that?

English

Java

what if the person has a double name like Mary Kate Olsen or type their middle name because they're some fancy boomer? Also how are they supposed to know they must type their name in the first place??? Pathetic

pic related is you

Don't these people use hyphens?

King Fury

what if they don't though
programming without saying "what if...?" and saying "they wont..." is the reason the software market is full of incompetent pajeets and dropouts

they do

Damn. That was a good move. 18 year old Jolie was pretty cute.

Without a WhiteSpaceFinderFactory, or an excess of lambdas to stream the characters array? I think not

senior dev detected

lambdas are for pussies

It's C#

Cancer.

Python

No isn't. C# doesn't have this trash syntax. That's Java.

If a coworker wrote code like that I'd burn down the entire company.

Yeah, it's not bad.

Holy shit how do you end up with something like that? Its literally a one liner in most scripting languages.
say join '', map { substr($_, 1) . '.' } split $ARGV[0]
Oops thought I was on /g/. Also split is missing '' as its first argument.

Do people unironically enjoy coding?

Blackhat (Michael Mann)

Yeah, it's fun to make stuff.

Programming is fun in academia and at a hobbyist level. Doing it for a job is soul-destroying.

>Doing it for a job is soul-destroying.

depends on the company, people, codebase, features/bugs you work on. for instance working on a fuck huge memory leak on a project with zero documentation where all the original creators fucked off/didn't know the code anymore was literally soul-destroying. But making cool features that consumers praised as really helpful was pretty fucking uplifting ngl.

what is this? Input picture get "handdrawn" picture?

ok, thanks.
do you have any idea why people think ML solutions will fix everything? people at work seem to think that copy+paste some random google ML solutions will transform the company

if it involves any math stuff and actually engages you programming is fun at a job. When you're just making programs that take user input and stores them in a database yeah it's soul crushing and unfortunately that's most work.

I've only ever "seen" Hackers once. And I wrote "seen" because it was just playing on background in my grandmother's house while we were eating on a nice, summer day. I've never properly put it on to watch it, because I fear it'll ruin the memory. A few years later things started going to Hell and still haven't recovered (although I still have some hope and my grit), so I'm worried. It's the same reason why the cancellation of Prey 2 hit me; I was reading some PC Mag with an article on Prey 1, so when Prey 2 was anounced it brought back memories only for the cancelation to dash them.

I'd have killed myself if I didn't get a raise out of it

because with ML you make the computer come up with a solution instead of expensive devs and/or hordes of barely sentient pajeets. management just loves the idea and honestly the technology is almost there and getting better everyday.

also during the loop I believe he will constantly call the length() method. he should set a variable to the length and use that for his check.

oh lol
why would you do that when you could just

>Get dragged into maintaining his 30 year old piece of software written in a language so obscure that Wikipedia only has 3 paragraphs on it

I know this feel so fucking well it hurts. dead ass language that only hospitals use and this company is the only one that uses it and has no intention of dumping it anytime soon. and the pay isn't good either.

luckily their work-life balance is ridiculously lenient and the people are nice so I haven't raised it up. but god damn I could hop ship and easily get 10k+ more money but I guarantee the work-life balance would be awful(amazon).

>When you're just making programs that take user input and stores them in a database yeah it's soul crushing and unfortunately that's most work.

I actually like that side of developing consumer side code for frontend/backend. Granted if your consumer is an asshat then it's awful as fuck.

I had a chat with a programming teacher once who taught math students, and he said that their brains were hardwired to indexing starting from 1, so they would always subtract -1 from anything because that felt more natural to them.

It doesn't matter.

Rust

fucking yikes man. the indexing starting at 0 made perfect sense to me but I am also terrible at math.

It's bad practice. if he scales that loop to go a million times then he is going to call that length() method a million times.

It's to going to matter and JIT will fix it even if it did matter.

true that, the only problem is that they think everything will be push a button it jest werks.
90 % of my work is related to legacy software but we are a """""""soon"""""" to be a data driven company

What a cutie.

It was coded in Unity. :^)

>Looks like some gui image viewer thing.
Yeah, it's pretty much just a simple gui. I'm going through oracle's tutorial on java, and I make these programs to learn the language.
