It wasn't even alcohol and I didn't hit anyone. I had to go to drug group counseling and lost my license which I'll finally be able to get back next month. All the fees ended up like 6 grand

not everyone lives in highly urban neighborhoods, of course this is no excuse but I would bet a very disproportionate amount of drunk driving occurs in rural and suburban areas

I was shitfaced while driving a few years ago, swerved out of the way to miss a deer, flipped my car onto its side and ran into a tree. My car burnt to crisp. I had a ton of cash on me too. The cop asked me why I had so much money on me and I told him that I'd just broken up with my girlfriend and was taking off somewhere. He let me go either because he felt sorry for me or because he was a retard.

your life will suck for the next 6 months going back and forth with court and you will shell out thousands (probably around 10k in total) in legal fees. you will likely be offered to take a class/community for reduced charges (wet reckless) as it is your first arrest. insurance might go up. not the end of the world by any means but it will set you back a bit, mostly monetarily. search for a good dui lawyer in your area. if you have a driving-related job and they find out you might be fired. good luck

Got my first a year ago with a .37 BAC. Worst part was the fines honestly. Use it as an opportunity for improvement and self reflection. These last 12 or so months have been such a bittersweet ride but it was meant to happen. Take care of yourself user it does get better. It isn’t the end of the world

I'm not sure how it works elsewhere but my friend only had to go to court once and pay a tiny fine. The big money involved installing the interlock (blow and go) system and paying for it for a year. And the lame classes.

Since it was your first offense, it depends what your BAC was, and what your state laws determine is an 'excessive' DUI. Also, keep any restitution in mind and prepare for it.

Otherwise, it's expensive, but you should be able to get a withheld judgment, so it won't be on your record if you follow terms of probation, pay your fines, etc.

Make an effort to take care of any restitution (go through your attorney and the prosecutor, FYI), pay for an alcohol evaluation closer to sentencing, and do some community service if possible. The judge will likely be more lenient at sentencing if you prove you're not a total piece of shit.

If real, not fucked, lucky beyond belief. Never again user you only go around once.

I drive under the influence most weekends, never been in an accident, never blown a red light or stop sign, never sped, just focused on the road and took my time getting home. The only time I ever got pulled over I said Good night, had my license and registration already in my hand, sat silently while he checked them, and he just handed them back and said your good to go. A lot of people just can't keep their shit together when they're drunk I suppose.
