The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a female character was doing nothing, the author wrote instead that the character "tugged her braids."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Jordan's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that he has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Wheel of Time by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Eye of the World at 15 or 16, then they will probably go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Wheel of Time" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

I'll give it a go. It's not without faults, that's for sure, but the World-building is - I would argue - as immense and impressive as tolkien. By book 2 you have a solid grasp on what's going on and the way things work. By book 4 you could easily claim to have lived there most of your life. By book 8 you could functionally work as a politician in any of the countries on the map. If your life is shit and you want to escape to somewhere magical for a while, WoT will do it, and if you're so much of a faggot that you'll ignore a good story for some semi-occasional prose issues then you should go back to Call of Duty and nights at the bar killing brain cells with beer and leave the heavy reading the the fucking grown ups.

Well it's supposed to be a long con for partial closure. A big chunk of this series' storytelling comes from prophecy, and an even bigger chunk of the latter books comes from trying to decipher what's going to happen after the end of the world. Rand's children are a part of that, and his three wives. The Aiel and the Wetlands will both have progeny of The Dragon, and this plays a big part in the way the Aiel police the kingdoms and maintain the peace treaty. Min is just for Rand's happy ending, I guess, I don't think she ends up having kids.

It would have been way better if she did die, but Rand was spared grief, due to the protection of his shared bond. Then at least it would have meant something.
