Why buy the cow when you get the milk for free?

I make shitty little 1 minute animations I think of when Im working, I get around 10 views per video, and I still set up a patreon. Because why the fuck not? If people want to donate, so be it. Nobody is forcing you.

What film or television is this thread about?

I hate this shit, it happened with podcasts and will happen with Youtubers
>release product for free
>people like product because it's free
>say "hey I deserve more money"
>start charging for access to certain content
>people complain
>whine that your fans are "entitled" even though you devalued your content first by giving it away

"for free" is questionable.
Is it "for free" if you have ads enabled and you're even trying for that nice little 10 minute CPM maximizing video length?
I assume whoever has been getting ad money, maybe merch money until now.
With youtube being post-ADpocolipse and all that junk with more and more restrictions on content you're allowed to monetize I can understand started a patreon to try and curb that.
Thing is though you actually get to see how much value your viewership sees in your content and it is likely less than you'd hope.

Looking it up it is some 2.2 million sub comicbook movie loving trashpile of nerd culture bullshit.

These guys shouldn't be fighting with fans that's incredibly stupid. Also these guys just had a failed kikestarter because they are incompetent

Meh, only fair for them to ask for payment

On the other hand, there is so much free content out there that I never have to pay a cent in my life

i dont mind internet people having a patreon or whatever other way to make money. the issue is when they constantly promote it. when you watch a hollywood movie, you pay your money at the door and can just enjoy the fucking movie from then on. no constant interruptions.

Le me guess...
>pop culture
>small blog
>small channel
>friends simulator
>almost a podcast
>+10 minutes videos
>small controversies during the years
>meh opinions with some good videos here and there
>getting raped by youtube because copyright and adpocalypse
Am I correct? I wouldn't be surprised if I am because there are thousands of examples like this.
Why pay when you can get for free the same type of shit but from a different brand?

They got a platform because they offered free entertainment. Once you put a paywall behind something, people will just move onto something else that's still free on YouTube.

>only fair
No it isn't. If you give out free shit, then you don't get to turn it around and guilt trip people for it. You gave it away

We're in the middle of a correction. You can work with less or get fucked.

Based boomer poster!

>Marvel movies you have to pay to see
>video games you have to pay to buy

post a link buddy, I make animations too

I stopped listening to the Frotcast thanks to this. They get paid to make the podcast and then they want donations on top of that?! Greedy fucking jews.

I hate when it effects their output and/or quality of the videos. Especially when they get enough money that they don’t put much effort in their videos and it looks like they are constantly bored or tired. Then they have made their hobby into a required job for money that now exhausts them rather than excite them and only do it.

Can't express myself enough to say how BASED
PIRATECHADS
are

If you become a patron, or give money to anyone via one of these crowdfunding sites, you're a fucking moron. Full stop.

The people who use these sites to get money are scammers, regardless of their intent.

I'm not pirating anymore. I just ignore the endless avalanche of shit.

From what I have seen, most of the time when a content creator makes a patreon, it usually leads them down the path to making a lazy boring podcast for extra money and views and trying to squeeze their fanbase for more money.

youtubers deserve nothing.
YouTube was founded on the idea of average jerkoffs sharing videos with extreme ease, now its all faux-"celebrities" making money off their "personality" while they sit in front of a camera and react to news articles.
YouTubers and streamers in general are why everyone is autistic and wont go outside.
Fuck the internet, fuck your fame, fuck your money YouTube is a hobby not a career path.

you reek of reddit

based there's nothing worth pirating.

If they're doing long form content with 2.2 million subs they're probably already pulling in $5-700k a year...why DO you need a Jewtreon at that point?

>opinions on youtubers just now jumping on the patreon bandwagon?
I don't care when you open a patreon or a merch shop or whatever you do to monetize your content. Just don't be a complete DarkSydePhil or FrivolousFox about it. This batinthesun guy seems like kind of a dummy more than a slimeball. Much funnier and smarter kahntent creators have tried addressing mean comments and come off worse for it, just ignore them.

It ruined Red Letter Media. They use to go out and do actual movie reviews. Now they just stay at home, fart on a couch, and watch the same old tape again and again (they even turned down Ratatoing! Something that could have been fun to mock. But instead they choose to keep picking the same b-sci-fi and elderly fitness videos again and again and again and again).
>inb4 “It’s because all Hollywood movies are bad!!!”
Bullshit. Hollywood today is no different than Hollywood yesterday. RLM use to make videos on Jack and Jill and also Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Now they only review one MCU film and the occasional indie movie.
They didn’t even review good movies like Crawl (an underrated Horror Film) or Alita Battle Angel (a James Cameron Movie. Would have given an opportunity to talk about Cameron) or even bad ones like Venom (they could have bashed for fun like they did with ASM1&2).

And why should they put effort into their videos? Their fans give them 40-50,000$ on their patreon. They can watch the same types of movies on their couch with minimum effort and make bank.

Because Greed.
