I'm not a fan of the Grateful Dead or anything so I'm entirely out of the loop, but last I heard genuine acid was incredibly hard to find and most of it was "research chemical" cocktails being passed off as the real deal.

Now I'm no chemist so I'm speaking outside my area of expertise, but from my experience of asking people pursuing their graduate degrees in chemistry how hard it was to make acid, the answer was usually very. Presumably that's why one guy working out of an old missile silo controlled the entire supply for decades.

I failed organic chemistry

I don't take drugs, but I've taken a few chemistry classes. Since LSD is psychoactive on the microgram scale and has a large refractory period for most people, a surplus is easy to come by. Uncle Fester has a nice little book explaining how to make various synthetic drugs, and all of the lab techniques covered would be used in undergrad organic chem labs.

From what I've read, it's a good idea to do a reagent test on whatever you're taking to make sure it's the real deal and not something nasty.

You don't have to understand how it's made to make it. And nothing in chemistry is hard to do. Once you understand how to titrate evaporate and separate you can do just about any expirement. You arent a chef but you csn follow the directions on a box of brownies, right?

I'm saying make as in produce in quantities and of a consistent quality sufficient for distribution to make a profit. Not just synthesizing a small amount as an exercise. As a general rule it's pretty trivial to make something once regardless of what it is compared to making it a thousand times and having them all work correctly.

You also have to keep in mind that making acid gets you very high.
