There is evidence that Egwene and Nynaeve were dark skinned at least, in a different way than the "coppery skinned" Domani, which presumably is like a Mediterranean look. There are multiple quotes about how Rand sticks out not only for his read hair and height and eyes, but also his pale skin. I think people have assumed that since the Two Rivers is so based on a traditional Tolkien, European folklore mold that the characters would look like they were from England doesn't match the way that RJ likes to take cultures and people and myths and mix them all up to create new elements, giving us things like the Irish Indian Aiel.

If anything Mat is the most out of place in the whole cast, because if Egwene and Nynaeve and Perrin are dark then presumably everyone in the Two Rivers is too.

No there isn't. Rand's skin only stood out when you compared the untanned parts and later on it's pointed out how Egwene has tanned enough to resemble an Aiel after spending time in the waste. So basically she's lighter than a very tanned ginger originally. The difference was always the hair and eyes, they are meds at most.

Andor is mostly based on England, Two Rivers on Wales/native Britons, Aiel on a weird mix of Irish and Scots (clans and physical appearance), Native American, Bedouin, Japan, and Zulu.

This one is really interesting. In early editions of the books, they were described that way, but in later versions their hair was changed from tight curls to straight more like Polynesians or Indians. I assume the change was because he decided to make Shara Africa instead.

I used to work with a guy that would ready the whole series through every year. He was an odd fellow.

On the surface this project looks like a cynical attempt to cash in on GoT success with the side benefit of signalling how woke they are but they are also clearly astrorfing the shit out of online discussions so I wonder what more might be going on.

But this world is nothing like GoT. The goods characters are actually good and the bad characters are actually bad. Everyone in the Forsaken joined for power pretty much and are inherently corrupted.

Like half of them joined because they were so fucking butthurt at how much of a gigachad Lews was.
