So what was the point of killing off Maude Flanders?

Did a light hearted family show like The Simpsons really need to introduce a dark storyline like this? Were the ratings at the time struggling and in need of a jolt? What was the thinking behind the whole thing.

It was a ratings stunt, like most episodes.

Grimes was in one episode, Maude is a regular.

Sneed

False, they killed off Maude because the voice actress demanded more pay for her menial role. The producers decided to just kill her off and let her go.

formerly

yes and it was arguably the darkest moment in the entire series

Formerly Homer Simpson

It was and still is a test of faith for Flanders.

Yeah that episode showed how stupid Homer truly is but that everyone just tolerates it. He skates by on the it and his dumb luck.

They had to make room for Sneed.

that's actually a reason for this. the actor who played her wanted expenses covered for travel. they wouldn't do it, so she left. hence they wrote her off the show

Huh didn't realize he was so based

underrated and redpilled

>Were the ratings at the time struggling and in need of a jolt?
Yes. There were a bunch of associated press articles too with the headline 'Maude's with God'. Ratings were on a downslide and Fox was desperate.
