I don't understand. What's the point of retiring if you love your art? Just keep making stuff until you're dead.

Tarantino obviously loves making movies. He's a good writer, as anyone who's read his screenplays can attest to, so his retirement would make some sense if he wanted to switch to being an author. But just living a leisurely life feels empty after a couple years.

Martin Amis said that at some point a person's talent dies, and I know Hunter S. Thompson killed himself because he felt he'd lost his ability to write well. But I'm skeptical of that premise, especially since Margaret Atwood, Charles Bukowski, and Norman Mailer all did their best stuff in old age.
