the die hard fans of these movies however are in such a sad spiral of doubling down on everything that might redeem the clusterfuck of the dc movies they jump on any statement they can interpret as

Final Crisis. It all revolves around Darkseid. Here's the thing, though, they're already using another story involving Darkseid that involves Darkseid as a sort of expanded framework story. It's called "Legends." It took place in the immediate aftermath of the first massive cross-over event ever, a story called "Crisis on Infinite Earths" that resolved all the long decades of DC's characters into one continuity. In it, Darkseid is essentially trying to "deconstruct" Earth's heroes, deprive them of their mythic status in the eyes of mankind and thereby usurp their role. In that miniseries, we got:

>The modern incarnations of Superman and the Batman
>Shazam getting framed for a death and causing civil unrest of metahumans
>the debut of the Suicide Squad
>the debut of Wonder Woman

So far, they've worked the cinematic equivalent of "The Dark Knight Returns" into that framework, and used Superman in Shazam's place as the source of controversy. Lex Luthor essentially plays the role of Darkseid's herald from the comics.

I hate those comparisons to the MCU. Snyder planned a a two part JL that might have ended close to pic related with Darkseid involved and a resolution to the Knightmare future. Not surprised Disney took that idea and put it in endgame.

Snyder posted video clips of underwater effects work sometime in January or February 2017. So its a lot further along than detractors pretend. There are probably some unfinished effects at points (like imperfections in Cyborg for instance) and Junkie XL's score isn't complete.

Nah, it’s not rushing into it. Final Crisis is the big arc, “Legends” is an internal arc. Ten years and 22 movies later, I’m actually angry with Disney for milking the MCU and giving us so little real storytelling in return. A full 2/3 of the MCU is complete filler with no impact on the characters or story.
