every country has it's own popular movies, they just (mostly) don't resonate with audiences from other places. normies don't really get exposed to films as much as Yea Forums does, so they never really catch on. america has a large influence over the english language cinema, but it mostly stops there. for example few americans or english speakers would have heard of les tontons flinguers (one of my favourite films) but not many french would know the godfather.

Some french succesful movies would be a nightmare to market oversea because of the slang used (older gangster movies or popular comedies) or because it isn't polically correct enough. Italians on average prefer local entertainment. When The Force Awakens came out it was 1 in literally every country but not in Italy because 1 was an Italian comedy about the lack of permanent employment today.
