Why aren't there directors like Stanley Kubrick or Alfred Hitchcock anymore?
Why aren't there directors like Stanley Kubrick or Alfred Hitchcock anymore?
bump
Dircetors are hack pseuds that don't care about entertainment nor the technical side of films. Don't try and think about other ways of doing something nor make stories that allow for innovation. They just want to appear smart and rake in the bucks
Economics. Overcome with hubris, one too many auteur directors like Stanley Kubrick or Alfred Hitchcock produced one too many box office bombs, forcing the hand of studios to clamp down on their productions and intentionally apply limits to how much influence a single director can actually have during the making of a film.
What are you talking about
There's hundreds of directors today that are as big of hacks as THEY were.
>David Fincher
>Denis Villeneuve
>Christopher Nolan
Kubrick nor Hitchcock caused that. Kubrick never actually had a bomb after the 50s
I'd like to add Yorgos Lanthimos.
bump
I think Paul Thomas Anderson is pretty Kubrickian.
Nolan is a hack that only pseuds praise. Nobody would give a fuck about him if he didn't happen to be the guy who directed those Batman movies.
Fincher is a bit like Hitchcock
Jonathan Glazers Under the Skin is like Kubrick
zack snyder,but normies hate him
I really liked Dunkirk, Interstellar and Inception. The Prestige is nice too.
why haven't boomers like you died out yet?
Dunkirk and The Prestige are legit. Following, though not very good, shows his natural talent.
I'm only 28
Are you seriously saying any of these guys are on par with fucking Kubrick
get out grandpa
You forgot to add Ridley Scott.
no can do
Studios have always interfered with directors, Orson Welles is a good example, yet he managed to produce excellent movies despite their meddling.
Those guys all suck dick.
>Why aren't there directors like Stanley Kubrick or Alfred Hitchcock anymore
Art was replaced with entertainment.
Talent replaced with money.
Stories replaced with franchises.
Because the people that make movies now were raised on schlock made by (((them))) as summer "blockbusters".
Under the Silver Lake was a Hitchcock style movie.
>>Denis Villeneuve
>>Christopher Nolan
they´re garbage
>Jonathan Glazers Under the Skin is like Kubrick
he’s the closesnt in craft. He just lacks Kubricks focus and ambition.
be the change you want to see
