Because 3D shit is easy and cost effective because you don't have to draw the same characters a billion fucking times. I personally think all 3D animators are hack frauds compared to their 2D counterparts but that's just my opinion. Also fuck Disney stupid fucking jew company.

Normalfags want muh realism, bad DTV Disney sequels and ripoffs put bad faith into 2D, Shrek and Toy Story made CG feel “modern” and “subversive”, when it was Tangled vs Princess and the Frog nobody wanted to see a nigger movie, Winnie the Pooh (the last chance) was sabotaged by being released the same time as the final Harry Potter, the infrastructure was destroyed so they don’t want to start it back up, new students are taught to draw cheap, not good.

Time and money spent are lower for CGI than hand-drawn. They also test market character designs for kids before the movies even begin production, and 9 times out of 10 the kids prefer the CGI designs.

Winnie the Pooh was the final 2d animated Disney movie. It was released with very little advertising and was competing against Harry Potter, when it inevitably bombed Disney shrugged and said "just goes to show audiences don't want 2d animation anymore"
