How would you have gone about this?
How would you have gone about this?
Exactly as it was...but at the end fight I would focus on the monsters. They had everything built up greatly but constantly switched to the humans whenever the monsters fought.
I'd extend the monster fight scenes for like 20 minutes
Recast, reduced bugdet, but make it a Mothra solo joint. Buildup to ghidorah in 10 years ala MCU.
Restructure the human scenes they don't interfere with the monster fights, especially at the end. You cant really cut out the human element because no company would buy it.
Delete the onions quip scientist and the screaming goblin child. I actually cant believe they made her fucking scream like she was still acting for Stranger Things, I half expected her to gain psychic powers and lift Gidorah off the ground. The editing was fucking awful too and ruined just about every monster fight.
remove all human actors and make it entirely about the monsters
2 hours of artsy mille solo nudity, forget about the kaiju bullshit
cut half the human cast, mostly the scientist.
kill off the little girl instead of based Sally Hawkins.
Make the last battle actually about the monsters.
good post
forget mothra and ghidorah
make it about anguirus and rodan
Serizawa was the only human that added worth to the monsters. The other human interactions felt forced and no one really cared for any of them
>Step one throw away the script and start over, watch "Shin Gojira" and Godzilla vs the Smog Monster" for inspiration.
>Find a good actor as our protagonist, I.E. Willem Dafoe, Mel Gibson, Bruce Campbell, etc.
>Interject some character actors for personality and a strong human antagonist. Gotta get that Godzilla face turn.
>Elemanate the environmental terrorist plot, that was just ridiculous.
>Our hero wants revenge on Godzilla for the destruction, he forms a team and goes after him Moby Dick style.
>In order to get the funding he makes a shady deal with a doomsday cult that worships Godzilla kinda like Call of Cathulu.
>The leader of the cult keeps a close tab on the hero, all while experimenting with radiation. He starts playing with plant DNA ala "Godzilla vs "Biollante." He himself starts to morph into a monster.
>3 weeks pass of "Godzilla Das Boot" our hero he slowly begins to understand that Godzilla is just a force of nature.
>The antagonist grows impatient with the hunt for Godzilla and develops a god complex.
>He becomes plant Tetsuo from Akira (gotta keep that PG 13)
>Godzilla vs plant Tetsuo, the sun gives him energy while radiation gives Godzilla energy.
>Our protagonist tries to call off a military attack on Godzilla, he now knows he's our only hope and we must accept our own brutality and cope as a society.
>Godzilla wins, maybe loses an eye or gets a scar, our main guy gives a monologue on how his view changed, Godzilla goes out to the sea the end.
Extend Rodan vs Ghidorah a bit but with the same outcome
>Elemanate the environmental terrorist plot, that was just ridiculous
Congrats on watching your first godzilla movie.
It was perfect, eat shit.
I have edited my own version.
>constantly switched to the humans whenever the monsters fought.
I have removed most cuts to humans. Especially egregious in the Rodan Battle, with Quippy saying the ETA as if he were a sports caster.
>Restructure the human scenes they don't interfere with the monster fights
Done.
>cut half the human cast, mostly the scientist.
>Delete the onions quip scientist and the screaming goblin child
I cut 80% of his lines. He is now a functioning scientist.
I have also removed most gags, which work like this:
>We have a problem
>A problem?
>[Someone explains the problem]
>We can have this solution
>A solution?
>[Someone explains the solution]
>[Someone sums up the situation]
Now it is
>We have a problem
>Here's the solution
>Let's go
The movie is 40 minutes shorter. It's laughable how easy it was to remove Milly. She was definitely an afterthought.
Make the Game of Thrones faggot have some kind of actual presence, have Vera Farmiga not be such a retard, and remind Friday Night Lights that he's supposed to have a personality other than "HURR GODZILLA BAD WAIT NOW GODZILLA GOOD I GUESS."
The monster stuff was great, the other 70% of it was a chore. I understand that you can't have two hours of pure monster fights because that would make the budget like $600 million, but in its absence at least make the human characters better.
Serizawa committing suicide with the nuke "Goodbye old friend" to re-energize Godzilla was kino at least.
>Biollante but with everything interesting about its origins surgically removed
Opinion discarded.
King Kong Escapes is absolute kino!
>remove all muh family shit
>remove 50% of the human scenes
>remove all human near the monsters unless they are getting killed
The humans needed to add to the world instead of distracting from it. The human scenes in Pacific Rim usually had some sort of part of the setting or example of technology shown off in the background to at least give you something cool if you were interested in the humans. As boring as Ford was in Godzilla 2014, his perspective was often well used to emphasize the sheer size of the monsters as the scenes transitioned to them.
More heads.
This shit is unreal. Hopefully we get to see more stuff like this.
I'm okay with this human scene, I like how fucking violent it is with the flashing lights and Millie barely not getting crushed.
FWIW I enjoyed the movie in spite of its flaws.
1. No Argo or Orca. Keep the tech realistic like in the 2014 movie.
2. Get rid of Stanton and the bitchy Chinese scientist. Maintain Mothra's fairy priestesses.
3. Admiral Stenz should be the leader of G-Team.
4. Clear, daylight battle without storms and darkness.
5. Monsters should move much slower.
6.Fewer homages to past films, more originality.
>I like how fucking violent it is with the flashing lights and Millie barely not getting crushed.
Why then put the child in danger if there are no consequences? No concussions, no broken bones. Just a POV.
At least with Rodan you get a feel of what happens: YOU GET FUCKING FLOWN AWAY BITCH.
>the bitchy Chinese scientist. Maintain Mothra's fairy priestesses.
The bitchy Chinese scientist IS one of Mothra's fairy priestesses. Her sister is watching Mothra spread her wings.
>more originality
That's what happened in 2014. Granted, not enough godzilla.
create adventure subplot about godzilla home and not the family drama .......... and when monsters fight they fight and the film dont cut to human drama ............
I meant to reply to
Also, something weird happened with the quote to
Atleast three times as many Millie scenes.
everyone wanted to see it...but then James gave it a lukewarm review. Most people don't care about the critics when it comes to godzilla movie...they only care about James opinion, a known curator of Godzilla films. He said it wasn't bad, but you can tell he had mixed opinions about it. And nobody is going to see a movie based on the "lukewarm" reception. Godzilla 2 will flop. It was too fucking dark. Simple as.
Why are there so many threads about this recently
non hardsubbed rip came out
It's on digital right? I can pirate it now and watch it in good quality? It IS worth a pirate, yeah?
Wait til this
is done rendering.
just off the top of my head
>write some of the scientists out of the movie
>both kids died in 2014
>mark is an alcoholic
>emma goes insane a few years after 2014 and disappears
>mark learns emma is alive and working with dance through the confrontation in antarctica
>the oxygen destoyer gets knocked into isla de mara and obliterates it
>show shots of ghidorah flying over the destroyed town ala godzilla wading through a destoyed tokyo in 1954
>Fewer cutaways to people during fights
>Higher lighting for the fights
Done.
Even though the humans in 2014 were pretty boring, at least they weren't nearly as obnoxious as they were in this movie
they fucked it up, no sense of scale whatsoever
Better actors and writing for the human scenes.
Less or no quips.
Monster scenes were good
>Buildup to ghidorah in 10 years ala MCU.
kill yourself fag
Don’t give the humans big ass sci-fi flying ships. And don’t focus on retarded humans advancing the plot. No ECHO locator. Just the monsters waking up from slumber and asserting dominance. Remove the mother character and the kid.
>cut the terrible attempt to make a mythology for the monsters
>cut the Agents of Shield secret organization with all theit goofy gadgets, vehicles, and secret bases
>cut the ecoterrorists
>leave the kaiju as mysterious, all powerful forces of nature that people can only speculate on as they desperately try to survive
>have the human angle of the destruction seen through the eyes of regular, non-capeshit-esque soldiers, scientists, and civilians
Basically the 2014 movie but 50+% monster action instead of just 5% at the end. No kaiju mind control gadgets, no 'hollow world' or Atlantis, and no villian plans ripped off from Thanos.
post it
I mean "done" as in following anons suggestion.
Monarch has been around since the 2014 movie though
This
Again, when it's done rendering, I will make a torrent.
And Kong Skull Island.
What I don't get is how Godzilla vs. Kong is going to be more interesting than Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan, Ghidorah and a bunch of unpronounced. They will just probably fill it up with bullshit again.
We all know they are going to cop out too, there will be some bullshit where they either have to stop fighting to 'team up' or there will be no clear "winner". They already had to give Kong some growth bullshit factor so he could even stand a chance against Godzilla, kek
Why not. Fight me bitch.
Beyond the editing choices mentioned in this thread, which I agree with, I'd probably change the notion that the kaiju are highly sentient and nigh-immortal and are all friends who just agree to follow the most badass one. It's not like silly elements in a Godzilla movie are unheard of, but it seemed to clash with the rest of the elements in the movie.
Also, cast Sean Bean as Charles Dance's character.
This.
in 2014 the characters gave more depth to the titans and kept the spotlight on Godzilla and the MUTO's
In 2019 the quips and the cuts to the human characters during monster scenes took the spotlight off the Titans and made the fights dull
